Well all you guys and gals deserve the biggest Effin medal going for putting in so much effort in the face of such crap conditions. However, it’s always events like this that are remembered, and with some sort of twisted affection, long after all the others are forgotten. Hope you all dry out soon.
 
The biggest controversy, jacket sleeves over gloves or THE OPPOSITE, corrected because I write it really wrong and got sprung. I know the right answer and failed again. To me it's the first but it takes a little more time so for the second time lately, I did it the second way and REGRETTED it big time. I have top-end wet weather gear but if torrential rain runs down your arm and into insanely expensive Gortex gloves and then back down your arms your buggared. Once it's inside the gortex it becomes extremely hard to dry them out. My only saving grace was my Oxford Heated Grips that stopped my hands dieing. My spare gloves are not waterproof but that's what I used the next day. What really did me in heading to Walca was the damp Dainese Gortex jacket and me with only a T-shirt under it and not stopping to put on more dry layers. There is some formula about being damp and cold and the effects with wind chill, but I don't like stopping and I thought the 140ks would go quickly, me being a bloody idiot. So I arrived stupidly cold and got away with it by dumb luck.

Hi Vince, I think you'll find that "jacket sleeves over gloves or gloves inside jacket sleeves" is one and the same thing...
 
Did I F that up, I really did didn't I. A full-blown Freudian slip. Since I was 16 and for the next nearly 48 years it was gloves over sleeves and wet hands. I tried the sleeves over gloves once and was sold but twice lately on super wet rides, I regressed and had cold wet hands again. I must set a new habit NOW.
 
I've always worn gloves over jacket sleeves. That's the way they're meant to fit. Never seen anyone do it the other way. If you had your sleeves outside the gloves, the wind would blow water up your sleeves. In torrential rain, you're going to get wet somewhere unless you wear a full hard-hat diving suit.
 
Yes, and that was stated by others in the pub at Walcha, we need a blind study to confirm this Scientifically. Plus jacket sleeves that are big enough to actually do just that. I guess I have just installed too many house Flashings to keep water out
 
I got a pair of winter gloves that have an elasticated inner seal that is designed to fit up inside the jacket sleeve and also have a waterproof fabric gauntlet type extension that fits over the sleeve. These, as well as my Australia Post wet weather gear that also has elasticated cuffs, have kept my hands dry no matter the downpour.
 
The gallery with phone cameras was mainly women from what I could see. I was resting on a log after my attempt watching the hilarity.

Same here with Held gloves.
 
I had similar but found you need to be Houdini-like to get them fitted into and out of correctly especially the last hand.
 
I should do a thank you to Brett on the bank and Bruce and Paul and a couple of others midstream directing and pushing the bikes on the crossing. Trying without help would have been much tougher.
