Boots

Back in the eighties these became very popular here. They were called Derri boots. 100% water proof, real easy to slip on. (and probably fly off too) alot softer than a wellies. Totally PVC 😃

Daytona have a range of different calf sizes for some boot styles.

I've been riding with Daytona Trans Open GTX boots for the past twenty + years, having recently replaced the soles which had split due to age not wear and tear and the steel toe tips and gear change pads.
Carried out by Frey Daytona, at a very reasonable price, quickly and to a high standard.

They have long zips, two on each side of the boot so are easy to get on and as long as you have a mate with a strong stomach easy to get off when ones leg is broken.
Ambulance chaps wanted to cut my boot off. I had to hold fast to my sock to stop my foot and lower leg going off with the boot as it was tugged off.

The boots are still in action and still waterproof and having forded rivers and flooded motorways whilst on my motorcycle and pumped out flooded parents home whilst wearing said Daytona boots I can testify to their positive waterproof standard.

When purchased, friends were aghast at the expense and questioned my sanity at spending almost 50% of my then months salary on a pair of boots.
These boots are working out to be some of the cheapest boots I've ever bought. Comfortable to walk in too as long as its not hot, at least for an hour or two.

I rode to Copenhagen a few years ago, around 1992 I think, the weather was predicted as being horendously wet all the way, I wore bog stock navvies wellies under my waterproofs, and over my leathers, my feet remained 100% dry and warm (sea boot socks) throughout the one day trip there and the two day trip back, gloves were summer ones but topped with Barbour overmitts, and jacket sleeves ON TOP of them so no water running down sleeves and into gloves, but you have to stay under 60MPH, which I did, otherwise the rain can blow UP into the sleeves. it wasnt the one in 2006when I took Andrea and was also attended by JWC longshanks, much earlier than that, it was even wetter.

In December 2022, I bought following recommendations on this forum a pair of Daytona GTX boots.
They probably saved my left ankle in March of the following year when a car driver tried to teach me how to fly. His car rammed me and the 3C from behind. I flew alright but the landing was difficult. I landed on my feet and split the calcaneus in my left foot in doing so. The rigidity of the boots no doubt saved my ankle which stayed straight, it would have broken otherwise.
High quality expensive waterproof boots, until last May, when it rained all day on the second day of a ride down to the French Alps. Water went though my Goretex jacket and my Goretex Daytona boots.
After enquiring with Louis who'd sold them, I sent them back and received them repaired today. New soles and new Goretex membrane.
At a cost, €241 for the repair. It will be worth it if they stay waterproof.
