Brake pipes?

If executed correctly, a joint in a brake hose has no effect whatsoever.  An ideal solution regarding pressure transfer from lever to caliper would be a solid pipe from the M/C to the caliper/s.  As suspension movement needs to be coped for, a flexible connection is necessary.  In the end, it all comes down to production costs and what the consumer is prepared to pay for a bike off the showroom floor, the main reason most modern bikes are still fitted with rubber hoses.  Of course these will not offer ultimate brake performance, but it will be more than good enough for most of Joe Public nonetheless.  Personally, I haven't found any stock modern bike to be lacking in the braking department in road useage.  Those that have braided hoses ex-factory also carry a corresponding price tag...  Lot easier/quicker to thread a hose through all the nooks and crannies instead of a solid pipe, again reducing production costs.

Absolute no issue with the Laverda factorys' solution with rubber hose/steel pipe, well executed and looks tidy while reducing the hose length as far as practically possible.  Correct, rubber hoses have a "use before" date, some T?V tech inspectors take a very close look, which, in itself, isn't such a bad thing, if you think about it long enough.  Reckon it is also a UK MOT requirement.:D

Thats good to hear. I was starting to think there was another disaster waiting to happen :o
Had never heard of an issue with these pipes before.

nick, couldn't agree more with what you are saying, in fact I have full length s/s hoses on my bikes. reason is, things have moved on in 40 years and like you I have this desire to survive . we now know how to manufacture hoses of a much higher pressure rating ,how to swage the ends and how to eliminate the weakest link which is always the joint.
safe riding andy

So why do they still fit steel pipes with rubber hoses to top or the range Bmw,Mercedes and Porsche's with up to 20 or more joint/unions in the abs systems if its such a bad design.A lot of this after market fitment of accessories on modern bikes/cars is bullshit, and makes no difference on the road. And most riders/drivers cant even exploit 75% of there machines capabilities anyway, and if they think they can dream on.

its called fucking production and design for fucks sake.
costs equal divedends to the fucking pension funds that want your piece of shit done cheap.
in the late seventies BMW cast wheels on there bikes cracked and guess fucking what they still sell cars with wheels that crack ie run flat mags.

I'm sensing from your passionate responce your a braided lines sorta guy Andy  :D

I use metal pipes AND braided hoses, in the same braking system!!!  :o :o :o

NIck's head just imploded...

OMG Grant, you genius you! (goodjob) how is the refurb of my hi trek Stradas going....we spoke about converting them to a semi active functionality while in the pub with Clem and Simon Tother day you may recall? ;)

My painter has closed for the festive break. I will also need to get your damping rods rechromed.
It will be into January now.

We might have a new runner for the Tourettes award here!

I can't let that pass un-challenged  :D

OK. I'm going for the Tourettes award. Stand back, I'm about to let go ...

You're all a bunch of fucking pissed dickhead christmas cunts. If you think solid steel brake lines are wrong, then you're fucked in the head! It's just fucking plumbing.  Plumbing is pipe. Solid pipe is strong pipe - like Arnold Shwartzenegger with a big pants-ripping erection.

Solid pipe is the only fucking sensible way to do brake lines. That fucking flaccid, floppy, impotent, girly, braided shit is only to accommodate suspension movement - you stupid brain-dead assholes! Look under any car and what do you see. That's right, fucking miles of solid brake pipe going all over the place. You also see masses of joints, unions, balancing fucking valves, AB-fucking-S sytems, and all sorts of threaded couplers and other shit screwed into the brake hydraulics. Do you see any of them pissing out brake fluid like a pichkurina? (my slovenian spelling might be wrong, but look it up you uneducated tossers) no you don't. That's because they were put together by than someone smarter you. Any cunt who runs flexible hose all over the chassis of a car is a cockheaded, puss-brained moron who is a candidate for the bloody Darwin awards. Same goes for a bike. Look at a Guzzi linked braking system. What sort of pipe runs the length of the frame? Is it that pissweak flexible shit? No it fucking isn't!

So to sum up - Just in case your shit-head brains are only for decoration (which can easily be arranged with a sledge hammer) - steel hose is the default for braking systems. Flexible shit is a poor substitute to be used only where movement has to be accommo-fucking-dated. OK? You don't put it everywhere just because it looks pretty. If you want to look pretty, get a sex change and wear make-up, you fucking pooftas.

Now fuck-off back to your miserable non-technical, non-intelligent, non-thinking, boring fucking mediocre lives.

I'm going to piss off and do some useful engineering - because I can.
