Breaking News: The 1000k’s in a day on a LAVERDA club… has a new member

am I in?
I have ridden Breganze back to home 1000 miles or aprox 1600 K's five times the quickest was 17 hours, the logest 28 hours, but all of them were non stop ecepeting a snooze in a service area cafe, only two weeks ago I rode t Denmark from Knockholt UK, 800 kilometres to Bremmen (D) for hotel, then 600 kilometres to Danish club rally, that was Thursday and Friday, then on the Sunday back to Hengelo Holland (aprox another 800 kilometres) for a hotel stop, then on Monday back to Calais (F), except I kept going to Montreuil (F) to see my 93 year old mum and check the pulse (all good) and on to home on Tuesday a total of 3093 kilometres in 5 days, includes local trips with the Danish club on Saturday.
so am I in or out? if you need a Dansh witness ask Piero, he was very much a presence.

Make sure surfaces are scrupulously clean before use, but this tape, I'm sure there must be similar in Oz, is vibration resistant and sticks like sh*t to a blanket.

Been doing it that way for years at least Graham listened to me and thanked me upon his return from the round Aus trip wth zero cracks find either Wurth or 3M works the best.. ( we used to do all the press cars like this as ya dont want to drill holes in new Ferrari’s and the like if ya can avoid it ) … way better than those dam screws and washers.. but then again what would I know huh ..505114CA-59F1-43F2-B330-AA07845A0DDE.jpeg
 
Good job Tom....especially for one of us grey hairs. It doesnt get any easier as the years roll on does it. I used to do 1100km from the Sturgis South Dakota Bike Week back home to Canada in 12 or 13 hours or so. But back in the days when I was in my twenties, on my Jota. Most of the country was (and still is) pretty wide open and barely populated, so sustained high speeds were easy to maintain.

Just finished a four day trip around Lake Superior on my Norge. 700km a day was enough for me.
 
I've done it several times on my old Kawasaki Z1B when touring around Oz, but that was when I was young and fit. I don't reckon I've ever done more than about 500km/day on a Laverda. And I don't reckon I'm ever likely to now that my body ain't what it used to be. I'd have to dose up on anti-inflammatories and strong pain killers (and probably some illegal substance like cocaine) if I were to have a shot at doing 1000km in one go on the torture rack that is my Laverda Jota.

I take my hat off to you Tom. You're a harder man than me.

The toughest stint on a motorcycle I know of is a mate of mine who rode from Gunnedah NSW to Balnarring in Victoria in one day on a Ducati 450 Silver Shotgun with a rucksack on his back. That's almost 1200km on what could be a contender for the most uncomfortable bike ever built for covering long distances. He's a fit and wiry little bloke and would have been in his mid 20's then. He's over 70 now and still a keen rider. He still has the little Ducati too (he bought it new in about 1971), although it now needs a bit of work to get it back on the road.

I did a fair bit of interstate stuff on my 450. With an inch of Dunlopillo on the seat it was very easy to eat big miles. I wish I still had mine, should have even kept the wreck after lending it to a friend and getting it back in the boot of a car.
I think that many of us did massive day miles back in the day on our Laverdas, a different story now with our aging bodies. Hats off to those doing it today.
 
The first owner of my Pantah rode it to Darwin after converting it to a TT2 replica. It had 5mm of neoprene as a seat covering over fibreglass, stupid low clipons and rearsets up near your ears plus suspension that was rock hard. It was horrible brutal to do any ks on, even with a sensible seat padding I did 400ks on it and was broken, that was a plus 40c day as well. It now has higher bars lower pegs and suspension that actually moves and is 100% a better bike for those changes.

It must be 30 years since I did a 1000km+ ride in a day - on my way back from Breganze, stayed overnight south of Dijon then rode home to Hexham (northern England) in a oner, only break was the ferry crossing and fuel stops.
I remember the ferry arriving into the UK at 10.30pm and we just headed north. I rolled into bed just after 3.00am, absolutely knackered, slept like a log.
What a trip that was, over 1200km! o_O Happy days :)

Did 1120 km Once on a rented Harley Electraglide in the States when my wife left her tens machine under her pillow when on tour , (had to do the journey three times) - at one point it cut onto one cylinder ( apparently it does this when overheated ) - they can also do 100 miles an hour - got off and walked straight to the bar unaided - seats were very comfortable

I think my arse would be pants if attempted on any of my Laverdas but hats off to all who do do this !

As said, it was a top weekend, and great to get the 1200 on some cracker roads.
2200ks round trip and worth every bit to catch the Redax Laverdas in action.
Now to order some new rubber.....

not interested in what you have done on any other bike blah blah …if we were it would have been called something different.

Tom did himself proud and actually got out there an did it on his Laverda so that is all that really matters here I mean who really gives a flying F…about if someone had done it on some other piece of crap … if its not on a Laverda then we do not want to know of it here.

I could go on an on about how I have done it on blah blah over the years… But I sure as hell didn’t but if you want me to bore you then I can…

So lets keep this one what it should be and that is to pay credit where credit is due and that is to TC1000Km … how hard can that be honestly

Don't hold back :ROFLMAO: was clearly hard not to comment - its a lot on any bike ;) but special on a Laverda

Ian Shearer made Baskerville this last weekend on his dog Jota 120 in one shot over a 1000k in a day
 
I once went more than 1000 k with two persons and baggage from Perigueux to my hometown on a MZ 250 ( when I was younger than 60), but who wants to know it ???? 🤷‍♂️
