Breaking News: The 1000k’s in a day on a LAVERDA club… has a new member

1000k a day on the Laverda in my youth, parents home in Perth to my mates place in Kalgoorlie then down to the future wife in Esperance, was easy enough and would still feel OK at the end of the ride. These days Perth to Augusta via my favourite route (200km longer than direct) is slightly over 500K and I need all the liquid analgaesia I can get when I arrive, plus a few along the way. Some bastard took a bottle of Sambucca Black last trip and the liquid licorice did not help the ride home one bit.

Umm for all those who seem not to understand this thread is purely about

The 1000k’s in a day on a LAVERDA club

I gotta admit, hats off to TC that is one serious achievement. Whenever I've seen a Laverda club, they're all over the place. Usually one broken down, one crashed, a few need petrol, five are lost and the rest are drunk. To keep them all together for long enough to do 1000km on them is deeply impressive, however does create a mental picture not easily erased.

Oops, thanks Steve, your post just made me realise I had missed the "club' thing. Amazing that it took till well into beer o\'clock after coming upstairs on a Saturday night to see the light.
I retract all previous comments as totally irrelevant. (I will edit as appropriate when a bit more sober tomorra........(done)

There were only 2 of them so scattering would have been hard to do. Probably 3 with the other Tom heading back north.

Nah, nothing to do with a club ride, ya pisshead. About 1000ks on a Laverda ‘club’

OK I mean the Aussie mainland silly Maurice 😢
So, South Point on Wilson's Promontory then. Nice spot. Bit difficult to get there on a Laverda though ;)
Sorry Maurice. But you brought it on yourself.

Come to think of it, the only extreme geographical point in Australia I've actually been to is the easternmost point, Cape Byron. That was shortly after going up Mt Warning to see the sunrise (the summit is the first bit of Australia to be touched by a ray of sun in the morning). I was there with my girlfriend at the time, but I got the sun before her because I'm a few inches taller. Dunno why we bothered with all that, but it seemed to have some significance at the time.

Nah. Wilsons Prom is a bit further south. I've never set foot on the Promontory but have sailed around it on route from Sydney to Melbourne. Heaps of offshore oil platforms to dodge around on the Eastern side of Wilsons Prom. I was chatting on VHF radio to a guy on one of the rigs. He said there's a whole ecosystem of fish living around the pylons that support the oil platforms. He suggested we sail close by and put out a fishing lure. He was right. We got 2 barracouta within about 30 seconds.

Me and a mate went to the tip of Wilsons Prom strangely heading back to Sydney from the first Philp Island GP, odd cause it's the exact opposite way to go back to Sydney plus it is a dead end from memory it's a good 100ks in and back. It was my first big trip on my just bought 3c. We had 2 bird experiences there. There was a massive Wedgetail Eagle eating road kill as we passed and it took off and fly next to me for what seemed ages. Scary and impressive at the same time. And at the end of the road, there is some kind of National Park holiday picnic spot where we were mobbed by thousands of brightly coloured Parrots that would sit on your shoulders and head or anywhere they could purch. We didn't stay long and headed back to Lakes Entrance where we got the news about another mate also at the GP who had crashed his GT bevel into some kind of Farm Machinery while heading home to Bemboka. So we then when to Sale Base Hospital to see him, not so good as he was in ICU, he recover but had a permanent head injury and leg issues. Sad but inevitable if you saw his take no prisoners riding style, an ex-road racer, close up. So from there, we headed into the deep Snowys around Mansfield and the dirt tracks back to Jindabyne, tricky finding petrol on those 350ks of dirt in there. So Wilson Prom was an interesting side trip on that big ride.

Well done TC, equivalent to doing about 17 laps of the TT mountain course. I might make that a challenge for next year, although with all the speed limits now in place it might make it a bit of a drag.

flew out of Port Morseby in PNG into Brisbane in 1982, my Jota was at my parents place in Brisbane and Maxene was in Cairns
Left Brisbane at 04:00 in the morning with 9 points on my license, rode 1800 klms +/- straight through to Cairns that day/night, arrived minus 3 points on my license as booked for speeding 4 times and threw my Jota away on the Sarina/Clearview stretch on roadworks
I was in love, needed to see her

Arrived in Cairns just before 10pm to find that Max was at the pub having a fat time so I went to bed as was totalled, she came home at 2am next morning to find me dead to the world

Wish I could do that now

This old beast my 74 3C took me down the 1000 miles in a day journey several times, in both Australia and North America (no Interstates were used).
The 1000km in a day journey well to be honest I've lost count of the number of times I did this, several of them in the company of MotoRob on his SF2. In Australia, it is just what we did back in the day when we were young and brave, and it was flat and straight and very few coppers about, still managed to shell out a lot of money for speeding tickets.
These days I am happy with a 300-mile day, of course, I tend to seek out the roads of higher elevation and there are a lot more curves involved.

Cheers Dave

Still remember some of those rides Dave. That 3c of your as well as my SF2 ended up with a shit load of miles on them when we eventually sold them in California.
My SF2 was well worn out by the time I sold it. I sold it to a mate in Marin County. where did you sell your 3c?
Wonder where they are now?
