Continuing:

Some of the unspoilt (well, previously spoilt but regenerating) West Coast vista. Mts Aorangi and Tasman in the very distance, the big Tasman Sea to the right:

Another compulsory photo, unfortunately I had been drinking so I didn’t risk running the argy up onto the beach, even though a silhouette shot might have made the calendar 🤣

Also met a few Laverdisti: Howard from Ak, who I met a few years ago, Johnny from Ak too I think, although he was a bit pissed so not sure 🤣, Venner and Housie from AU, and a lady with a 750 at home, who proved her provenance with a tattoo on her chest. I offered to kiss it out of respect but she declined 😘

Hey Andy. Tassie is a bit isolated from the rest of Australia, so I haven't seen Uncle Venner (Venna, Vena?) for years. Not even heard his name mentioned. He's a funny guy. There are plenty of stories about him being a bit of a wild man in his younger days. How is the old bugger?

No wonder I wanted to go down the West Coast! Another stunning collection of roads, especially the section from Westport to Murchison, actually it was all pretty good 😁 and an excellent way to wear out tyres 👍

But unfortunately the plans have all changed again, the Cook Straight ferries are all cancelled due to high winds and heavy seas. Rebooking isn’t possible for at least a week because they’re all full. So we activated our motorcyclists “help!” grapevine and a mate of a mate in Nelson moved his wife’s car out of his garage and let us park our bikes in there for as long as we need, then dropped us off at the airport and we’re flying home. I’ll ride Lola back in a couple of weeks when the dust has settled.
All part of the adventure!
They named the Burt Munro a “Challenge” for a reason 🤣
 
A bit late to the party here, but it was my first "Burt" and it must rate up there with the TT and Daytona speed week, in Invercargill no less! Thoroughly enjoyed the week, the beers, the sunburn........... I will do a YouTube video at some point in the near future. I learnt a few tips and tricks for next year's event, Can't wait! :cool: Good luck getting the bike back across the ditch, might be a while.....

That's a bugger. If you'd come back via ChCh I'd have had a Laverda in the garage - and the Sound of Thunder is in a fortnight.....
 
Well the adventure continues… as Sir Ed Hillary pointed out once, it’s job isn’t finished until you make it back.
Flight to Nelson and a return ferry booked. Ferry was the first to be buggered about, with the ferry still broken, so it’s delayed some 4 hours. Then last night the flight was cancelled! So I waited patiently online and finally another flight was released and I was able to grab a seat. Phew, hopefully the forecast heavy seas in Cook Strait don’t cause another cancellation 🤞🤞🤞
So here I am in Nelson, back with my precious 😁
 
Ahh… apparently my precious doesn’t like being left all alone in a strange house for a couple of weeks 🤨

Luckily I always carry a couple of spare plugs for when it gets the pip 😁

I still love the Queen Charlotte Drive, never ending twisties - but don’t look at the view for too long! Marred a little today by Saturday traffic, and the continuing road work repairing slip damage.
I also had reason to remember that even when it’s dry, clay dust is quite slippery 🤣
