Club Laverda NSW 2020 Snowy Rally

Just checked the weather at Cooma and Penrith over the weekend, my winter liner is coming out but I will carry it, the weather can change on a Dime in the Mountains. Forcast averages 13c morning and Low 30c in the arvos with a Thunderstorm possible Friday. Sounds good to me.

So 8.30am yesterday morning saw a group of hardy Laverda soles set out sans the road racer, apparently he had an issue and was in hospital but no one had told me. Nor did I know that the Moose had an off earlier in the week. So there were 8 Laverda?s including 4 Jota?s and the obligatory BMW along with a flash MV along with Dave H ( was great to see him back on his feet in his Kombi albeit a modern day one ) Had a good run down to the top of Kangaroo Valley where we hit road works dam...... but wait we had to wait like 5 mins and then they let us through and well bikes were in front. So it was awesome going down the pass with no one in front off us... the sign says 60 so I didnt go over 60 once according to my speedo.. :P :P Later in the day the run from Cooma to Dalgety started dry and the when we got a bit further along it started raining cats and dogs but wow it was way fun.
When we got here Anthony from Canberra on his 76 was here along with his mate on wait for it the obligatory BM .....
Now we got a note last night that Carlos has made a Lazarus type recovery and will be joining us later today which has made our pro China diplomat oh so excited as he was missing him oh so much yesterday.
This morning a few of us are sitting around with head aches not sure why whilst some have not even surfaced.
Cant wait till Tommy boy and the other Canberra/Southern NSW mob gets here should be another big night tonight I guess.. oh and yep we should have a great day today... more later.
Now if I dont get the photos up no worries there are on the facebook page so one of the many here that seem to have too much time on their hands might be able to upload to here.. or maybe Mark Muir if he gets a chance could do it please

Some pics from Marty, having lots of fun. (bastards)

Hey Carlo  thank for putting up some photos probably get some more up tonight or tomorrow when I get time. We are thinking of you and think you made the right call at Heathcote to turn around. We did traverse some rather rough roads over the last couple of days.....

So day 2 started out with a spirited ride from Dalgety to Bombala where I bought a new stop light globe as some of those behind me were complaining how bright my tail light was... god dam if they didn?t like my rear light then they could have just simply gone past...

OUt of Bombala onto the Monaro with me at the rear for a change drinking my coffee a they decided to leave with my coffee in hand managed to get some on my jacket but not too much ... RGS is more better for drinking coffee on the way... anyway coffee out of the way and back on the gas to catch the lead guys ... then we onto the IMLAY road ......which was a cracking run through there as after the fires the road is some more open but very rough in some parts. How many 75K corners can one road have

So then into Eden with the promise of mussels for lunch... so we followed TC who tried his best to get us lost but got us there .........sadly however it was closed... so back to the original plan and head to Bermagui for lunch...........and Gelato but no rhubarb....so Chris was not that happy. After there we headed back towards Dalgety via Brown Mountain which was fun as there were no cars so it was great thought in some corners it was a bit choppy to the fact that on the gas the poor little 3C the rear was spinning up ... up to the look out wait for the others help Marty off his bike as his poor knee is still blue from his prang.

Then we had a good run aka fast back to Dalgety and a bloody BMW got ahead of Marty and myself so in theory he was planning on winning the GP but last corner in town managed to get the 3C up round the outside of him to make sure a LaVerda led the way back into the pub.

Out token VIc Tommy Boy rocked up then some others from Canberra turned up but sadly not on Lav?s.. as we were sitting rehydrating after a good day who turns up but an young Southern NSW lad on his SFC750.

Day 3 was a bit of a seedie start for a few of us so thought would take it easy but the thought of the best bacon and egg rolls in the country got me to put that theory behind and had a nice head clearing run there.. apparently along the way the SFC parted company with its rear tail light lens as hi speed as Batto was on the gas going round TC.

After brekkie a few went the wrong way but came back so that started the rot for the day is seems. Out of Berridale and was still feeling a bit rookwood so decided to sit at the rear following Chris and Vince ... but as the pace was a bit slow and started feeling like was falling a sleep decided to drop back and enjoy the scenery.. we go past the trout farm and then there is a fork ..so following el President we turn left... no one at the corner so we figured left and onto the and over the dam and onto the Alpine Way.. that was the route we figured.. nope they decided to turn right there and go and look as some other dam.. go dam it if you have seen one dam you have seen them all. So we were starting to think shit these boys are onto it and then when we went through the National park gate we quizzed the lass at the gate and she advised that a group had gone through about 5 mins before with a grey Van so we thought shit we have been too slow ... hmm buggers could have waited for us..

So the Blue RGS gets cranked up and we are off man we had a great run through there and as was still rookwood was happy to sit behind Chris ... we rounded up some nightly dangerous riders along the way and some others... but then we get to Kankobin and we are the first there.. we have some lunch,,, we drink some tea we watch a few movies and finally along roll int the others... with tales of going to some other dam I mean really .....thought we were on a motor cycle trip... the other night a few were seen wondering off together to ?look under the bridge ? hmmm

After lunch we nice steady run down to the closed border crossing then along the NSW side to Tumberumba as there were some red back s on the road and we didnt know where they were just happy to run on in at a sensible type speed. The pub want be getting any votes but for the food just quietly as didnt hear anyone mention a good thing about that... hmm but the beer was OK and it was quite relaxing sitting up on the balcony watching the world go by........

Day 4 its gunna be a long one back home me thinks and the route seems to be changing by the hour... but we will see..

As previous lots of photos up on the Club Laverda NSW facebook page so if one of those with more time on their hands feels the inkling feel free to post them here. Just not managed to get them out of the gallery as yet on the dam IPAD but its all good.

Hope the rough roads are kind of behind us as reckon that my gallbladder is not liking it and maybe that is why am bit crook that and hayfever ... note to self unless on my racetech shod bike remember the bloody kidney belt next time.. still its all good ...

Day 4 another epic trip woke early and well yep seedie once again only joint open was the bakery so after a quick tune on Pete's Jota ... was getting very confusing with all the common as Orange Series 2 Jota's as to whose was whose... controversy as 2 have black chain guards hmmm but after checking with some officials the conclusion was not original.
Off early through Rosewood then a rather nice trip on to Tumut and then to Gundagai for Brekkie of sorts. Fueled up and then a nice run back through Harden and onto Crookwell for lunch.. Tom's choice of eatery and it seems local knowledge prevailed as that was the BEST feed on the whole trip.  :D Well done Tommy Boy. From there we split and only 3 hardy soles continued on the prescribed route. Teh run out to Oberon was met with some roadworks and cars but once we got past them it was a great run out to the highway. Contrary to all the dooms dayers the run over the mountains was fairly free flowing so was all good.
So the mighty 3C covered some 10 mile short of 1200 miles whilst the more modern if you call it of the group travelled just on 2000 K's ....... bloody great weekend.

Best meal Crookwell

Best Coffee on the trip, the one I had before left home

I will leave the voting for the other awards to Mr Moose hope you knee is better..

It was great that Dave came along so we had our very own professional photographer on the way so we are all looking foreword to seeing some very good shots of us in action. Carlos there is always next year and am sure that Will might also get along then as well. Good to catch up with the Canberra crew and also the chap from Southern NSW on that noisy Orange thing that decided that try to shoot its tail light lens at TC on the run into Berridale.

Heading to Crookwell there was an impromptu roadside stop for a piss, I got my Mr Sheene out and paper towels to clean my visor as it was absolute covered in flys, and then it started, a queue was formed and it took 2 full goes of Mr Sheene to spade them off. All 6 of us were solidly covered. Worlds record for visor flystrike

I hadn't done much riding this year so I found the first couple of days tough being so unbike fit. I was coming good on day 4 thankfully. We struck every type of weather from a 6c start the 1st day and a solid thunderstorms 30 minutes from the end of day 1. My room had a heater so my gear dried overnight. The room didn't have a window though and it ended up a sorner by early morning. It was cloudy with very flat light making it hard for me to pick corners with occasional brakes of sunlight. The last day ended with what seemed 40c, apparently, it was less but sure didn't feel it. I did find a new reason to complain about,I spent about an hour on the Expressway heading home trying to avoid a Dual Cab ute with a light bar fitted to the rear end of this idiots roof shining his SUN LIKE lights rearward, seems there is a new way to be a dickhead on the road. There I was thinking it was only BMW bike owners who loved their extra lights.

Look forward to hearing your latest gripe on the next ride. When is that road captain?

Carlo, we were talking about lots of riding trips next year when the virus has subsided, and then today they closed the South Oz border again. We do have one club night left this month with the usual no meeting in December

My first time taking the Jota out on a multiple day run, mounted up some Krauser hard panniers and off we went, ran like a dream.Four days of bliss on some great roads with great people.Final 2 hours on the freeway was the usual head intercourse, however seeing three Orange 81 Jota?s taking up two freeway lanes riding  in perfect formation is something I?ll never forget, damn shame it wasn?t captured on film..
