Club Laverda NSW Nundle Pub Weekend Run

Not one but 2 x two headed calves, must be something in the water. Soggy ride up to the turn off to Nundle, then a dry run up a great bit of road. Great dinner and a few bevies, I?m buggered. Weather forecast for tomorrow morning looks bad.  New jacket is crap...... again.......

If your heading towards Tamworth tomorrow it will be worth asking the Publican about flooding of the Peel River, rain like this will have roads there cut pretty quick. Been there and dodged this before in Elninio years, if it does flood it followed the river systems for thousands of ks and blocks over time a lot of the roads as well.

Great pics. Rides like that are always best with some mates.
Wasn't Marty warned that waxed cotton jackets are part of the cutoff wooden seat and exhaust wrap style these days?

Marty started that ride with great hopes for his Waxed jacket, by the end of the first day his hopes were considerably dented.
At our last stop where the single use plastic inner was revealed, we felt that if it wasnt absolutely pissing down he might just throw it in the bin.
Top ride, it was wet and cold but we had a shed load of fun. Nundle was fantastic, even met the local Vicar, who thought I was one of those "lazy good for nothing, bludging ABC journalists" ???
Needles to say we had even less in common after that.....
Was great to have Brett on the Cico ride with us for what seamed most of the first day.
Give me a couple of days to dry out and Id do it all again.

My old cotton jacket was great, extremely waterproof, comfortable, great pillow when camping.  Had it for over 15 years.  It went around NZ with me in feb, lots of rain there, it kept me dry.  Basically it was falling apart, got too thin.  I thought a new one was the way to go. The material itself was perfectly waterproof, the design of the front and the cuffs looks good but in practice doesnt work.  I will keep looking. No wooden seats here mate.....

The vicar was sooo wrong, you?re not a journalist

Waxed cotton has had its day. I used to use it for bushwalking and motorcycling about 40 years ago, and it was probably the material of choice back then. But there are better materials available now. You don't need high-tech semi-permeable stuff like Gore-Tex on a bike because you're not working up a sweat that has to escape through your clothing. Fully waterproof cloth is OK. I've had reasonable wet weather performance from Dri-Rider stuff. I've also used plastic fisherman's over-pants and jacket that kept me pretty dry. I looked like a big yellow canary though.

Best wet weather protection is to stay home when it rains.

Today, anything not marked Goretex isn't waterproof.

Says Goretex! I have numerous alternatives that are excellent and some with Goretex that are pox.
Belstaff used to be the bees knees many years ago, but the design is different these days and they are marketed as fashion. I didn't know that there was bike gear in waxed cotton available any more.

My old Dri-Rider jacket is still excellent in the rain - got it in about '95, but hasn't had a huge amount of use in the last 20 years!! When I have used it it still worked for cold and rain - zip out liner a bonum in winter. Belstaff padded nylon overpants are warm as but needed a re-waterproofing after their last wet outing.

What a great ride you guys had - those wild weather journeys are the ones you really remember. Good on you all for not giving a rat's about wet weather. I don't mind it at all.

The only really waterproof stuff I have, jacket, gloves and boots has Goretex written on it.
Belstaff were the bees knees as were BSA.
I still have my last Belstaff jacket. A red one, looked very serious when they got nice and dirty. Can't get into it any more.

Gore-Tex is a trademarked product.
There are several alternatives to Gore-Tex that perform just as well.
