Cool Videos

Red Marley .... goes on a bit at 46 min ( my attention span is usually about half that ) ...... Go to 18:00 to see them launch off The Pimple ( or not ) ........ Makes me wish I still had my R125 and T25 ........

Dog at 0:35 doesn`t like Triumphs .....

Trevor Nation on the Norton RCW588 ........ Latest CR700 weighs 130 kg and makes 220 bhp ..... ( My old TZR125 weighed 110 kg and made 18 bhp ..... and I thought that went quite well ....... I`m guessing 18 bhp ..... Power valve kit wasn`t fitted , but you could adjust the valve manually to a half way position , which gave a compromise between low down pulling and top end ....... even that would show 97 mph on the clock .... impressive or what .... ? .... ) ......

Following on from the Norton Rotary thing ..... Not sure if I`ve put this up before ( don`t think so ) ...... but it`s a nice little clip featuring the Hislop `92 TT Victory ........

Barry Symmonds said that it just couldn`t help but make power .... but ran hot ... I think they had to remove the front mudguard in some cases to help cooling ...... and it just drank petrol , asking for more and more ....... In fact it was virtually cooled with petrol .....

I like the way it chuckles to itself on the over run ......

There was a case where the Norton rotary team were at a same race meet as the 500 GP stars at time , Rainey , Mamola , Kocinski etc. , maybe the British GP ....... they all did a couple of parade laps together ........ Mamola or someone said later " those Norton guys really wanted to race " ..... They actually stopped halfway through and swapped bikes .... the Yamaha / Suzuki 500 GP riders on the Nortons , and the Norton riders on the GP bikes ........ I`ve tried to find footage of that , but no luck ......

Thanks for posting this. Loved it.
I like your description of the bike's 'chuckle' on the over run. Nice.
Watched the Norton Rotary bikes at Brands Hatch with I believe Trevor Nation and Steve Hislop, memory could be off though, I do remember the crowd going crazy when they came into view in first and second place. 'Mexican wave' of elation ran through the crowd.
Happy days.

Doug Fraser (an Australian who's very well known in the BSA community) turned up at Broadford around 10 years ago with a Norton rotary. It was blindingly fast and sounded like a 6-cylinder Honda race bike of the 1960's. I recall one of the commentators announcing at the time that he'd just broken a lap record on it. I don't recall what sort of record, but I presume it would have been something related to its classic bike status.

I got to ride the Nouvo Saturno 500 Bialbero quite a bit in the 90ies. My cousin bought one for his wife but she never used it so I volunteered do ride that poor thing (the Saturno not the wife) a little.
What a difference to my Corsa and MHR Ducati that was. So light and wonderfully balanced. Good brakes too. A bit more power would be nice but on a small mountain road not so bad. Also quality-wise I seem to remember it was quite good. I regret not having it bought from him back then.

The big issue with the Rotary was arriving at a comparable capacity to other more typical 4-stroke Engines. I once saw a Rotary Drag race car, it spun to insane revs before launching. What a sound it made.
