Cunning Buggars

This guy, country cop - wanted to up his quota on a Saddy arvo and get to the footy or whatever the fuk ha was interested in. I've had some decent guys pull me over - not this one, the classic radar in the car, waiting for the unwary in a place where everyone was bound to be over his supposed 40. I really really wanted to go to court over this one. My theory is, the cops knew they'd lose and just ignored it - the Sherriff's office gets a prod from the Minister to track down some of these bulk unpaid fines and bingo! And too 'historical' to contest - how fukking convenient. The Sherriff also said it was 'too serious an infringement' (there it was, thanks to the cop, 45 over the fukking limit!) to rescind it.

On a ride through the Adelaide Hills approaching the eighty zone outside Gumeracha. All of sudden the red and blues flashing in the mirrors so I pull over. As the cop approaches I pull off my lid and the cop has a good look at me and says 'do I know you?' Sure do says I, we've attended many an MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) over the years. He tells me I was doing 88 in the eighty zone and to take it easy and says g'day.
Sometimes there is such a thing as good karma.

I am English and live in England, I have now had three speeding tickets sent through the post to me at home from European countries, first was France x2, deserved and paid up, a radar canera that I must have triggerred about four hundred times at around 2am, not causing any danger of worrying anyone, and never heard a thing, I now pass it at under 80KPH, the last was Austria and I was speeding due to towing a trailer, it took eight months to get to me (so probably out of statute) and then another month to remind me I had not paid and the fine doubled, then another month later and I was warned of time in prison for non payment, should I ever enter Austria and become detected, so I paid the original (50% discount) fine and left it at that, over the years I must have had hundreds of french parking tickets, overstayed time, no french coins etc, never paid a single one, I bet they come through now, so the moral is you just have to comply, end of
CLEM

Just like in the movie, I Robot. The algorithm will decide who to save if 2 people are involved in a self-driving car accident.

I have never come across a remote speed camera anywhere in the USA and I have traveled to many different states and regions. The only remote cameras I know of are the ones used to catch drivers who run red lights.
Every time I have visited Australia I have received in the mail speeding tickets I had collected usually from very remote rural areas.

Main areas I see police (highway patrols or moveable speed cameras tends to be on the major highways and known regular spots near towns.
Rarely run into any on Qld regional back roads, which incidentally (a lot) are in just as good a condition as highway 1 these days!!!
The less traffic the better for me and can travel to conditions;)

I had a similar experience to PB2 when driving a work vehicle early one morning on a 110kph highway. As far as I was concerned it was an uneventful trip. But a few days later I got dragged into the boss' office and presented with an infringement notice for doing 110 in a 60 zone. 50kph over the limit means mandatory loss of licence and vehicle impoundment. To say the boss wasn't happy would have been an understatement. I confirmed that I was the driver at that time but I had no idea what it was about because that stretch of road had a 110 limit and I hadn't seen any hint of roadworks.
So I sent a letter to the police asking them to explain the infringement. I got a reply saying the police officer on duty had set up his speed camera before the roadworks guys had arrived on the scene to set up the the speed signs, which meant I'd done absolutely nothing wrong. The police letter went on to say that they had reduced my speeding infringement to an "official warning" (which is still an infringement, but carries no penalty).
There can't be many people who have received an official police warning for obeying the posted speed limit.

There can't be many people who have received an official police warning for obeying the posted speed limit.
And they wonder why so many people are cycnical about the true objectives of speeding fines and have little faith in the road safety campaigns that revolve around speeding as THE offence. There used to be signs in rural areas to the effect that 'Police targetting ...' with a variety of optional safety issues (seat belts, drink driving, speeding etc). Now they are all universally fixed on 'Police targetting Speeding'.

The major problems with these cameras are tiny tolerances, less than 5kph and you have no idea you have done anything wrong till the letter arrives 2 weeks later so you have zero ability to do anything to correct this apparent dangerous behaviour.

They just have the marketing all wrong.... Safety Cameras Pffft!

if they called it a Speeding Tax, wouldn't be so bad. If you want to go fast, you pay more tax?

A bloke in Adelaide was pinged for doing 200kph in an eighty zone the other night, pulling monos through red lights and generally being a stupid idiot. When they tracked him down with the aid of the police helicopter , he was over the limit, full of drugs and unlicenced.
Sometimes the cops are due a bit of credit IMHO.

That's 100% great, but so many idiots have exactly that Insanity equated to 5 over. And the major thrust now is CASUAL SPEEDING eg every k over is a killer, I hear don't speed if you don't want a fine, and that's with a speed limit change every other corner. We now have 30,40,50,60,70,80,100 and 110 and in plenty of places other than the sign you cannot tell from how the road or conditions look. To me, it's becoming a bent game with practically zero chance of never getting a fine. And then up pops someone who only drives around their home and shops and says they have never got a fine in 60 years of driving. The reason why I am so hot about this is 40 years ago I decided that to avoid being run over by cars on the bike and I live 10ks from the Sydney GPO is SOLID traffic I would maintain between 5 and 10 ks above the traffic flow to be noticed and keep out of blind spots and its worked great for that time, never been hit or hit a car, not including a couple of clipped mirrors filtering and now exactly that is being targeted by some ACADEMIC study as dangerous and must be stamped out. I take this threat to my safety personally and am pissed off to the max about this.
