I took the engine back to Ged Shorten with all the additional things I'd bought to replace the destroyed items, I always like looking at the bikes he's working on. One of them today was a beautiful wire wheeled MV 750 America. 300 miles on from a rebuild (not by him) and the engine is Donald Ducked. Blast media in the oil, he reckons it will be a very, very expensive repair, made my SF2 problems seem like nothing at all.

Ok, engine is now back together, I've already spent more than the bike is worth but what the hell. I should have nicked the bits to build a 3C replica instead of trying to rescue this heap . The cases are different shades of grey because the parts came from far and wide and I'm not prepared to pay for blasting etc. The internals are bang on, it has the original head (complete) amazingly, original barrels, crankcases and starter motor, maybe the dynamo, the rest was scrap.
Forks are away getting rechromed, tank is away being repaired.
Maybe it will live to fight another day?

Well Tom there is no money left in the pot now so it will be original, functional but cosmetically not too great. Paint and chrome cost too much, having said that the cosmetics can be done over time.

Will be a proper job I like bikes that functionally perfect where the condition of cosmetic parts has no impact on their practicality - nice one

Ha ha! The Autosol is already in use, the original paint on the frame etc is quite good so a little touch up here and there should do that job. The chrome is the worst bit but I managed to get some rechromed headlamp brackets off ebay so that's a start.
The tank and side panels need paint, if I have to do it myself with rattle cans I will avoid metallics and pick a solid colour. I reckon I can get a good enough finish with a bit of elbow grease.
When I bought the bike I connected a battery to it and everything functioned, the wiring was untouched so if I'm not painting the whole frame it can stay untouched and as installed at the factory. I'll check the connections but leave it in situ.
The seat will need work but it's not too bad.
