It doesn’t alter the fact that the guy asked where he could get a manual for the bike nobody answered his question and you treat him like shit because he said Keith was rude but as everyone on this site should know Keith’s always busy and phoning him can be a let’s say a experience, more so if you don’t know him. How do you expect to get new blood in if you treat them like this
Can we agree to disagree? He asked a simple question, and while he didn't get a straight answer to it the first two replies (this isn't Google, which, btw, would have come back with this: Triple manual - now that wasn't too hard? )

Instead he got something much more valuable which no amount of googling could have returned: The (obviously) correct advice for his situation. He took his bike to a shop that obviously has no clue about it (brings us a manual and we will fix it up no problem). That is a disaster waiting to happen. As you probably know the factory manual is neither comprehensive nor always spot on and neither it nor the green book has all the info about different heads, inlet stubs etc, there is the cam block problem and obviously the "cut the valve sat to deep" problem etc. etc. the manuals have no info about.

So post # 4 he complains for the first time. Post # 5 he gets an answer: How about looking on Ebay? (Actually, I looked for him). From the on it's all downhill: Some people reinforce the idea that the first two pieces of advice were actually not that bad.

He looses his cool.

Nobody stoops to his level, so he decides to go lower. It takes til post #20 for him to be called a pretentious prick and til #23 for him to be called a wanker - and he STILL gets a proper answer to his question.

Now if this forum isn't the epitome of gentlemanly restraint I don't know shit from shinola.

Re: The new blood - He'll end up with a fucked up bike and post all over the Porsche world how Laverdas are total crap - no matter how polite the answers would have been.

Oh, and if he had only been directed to a manual right away without further comment he would have added: "Those fuckwits on the Laverda forum could have told me the manual wouldn't do me any good but noooooo, what a bunch of sad bastards". 🤯

Yep I reckon Keith just wanted everyone to give him a good wrap. I'll add to the chorus, I've only worked on one of his Resto jobs, but it was beautifully done, some well thought out upgrades and modifications. The owner is one lucky guy.

Laverda Jota, sold by Alan Duffus motorcycles in March 1979.Good friend of mine bought it in 1980.He dropped it shortly after and subsequently bought the Motodd kit.Sadly he passed away earlier this year aged 60.I bought the bike from his wife with the promise i would have it restored to its former glory.I have spoken with Richard Slater and Phil Todd, both extremely helpful and lovely.I spoke with Keith and have previously shared my thoughts. The person who is going through the engine worked for Alan Duffus in the late 70s and 80s mostly on Laverdas, with many, many engine rebuilds. He also raced at the Isle of man with a Kh500,Laverda Jota etc, looking after his own bikes.I asked for handbooks/literature as i thought it may be useful to him after all these years.Whether i have 16 Porsches,2 Ferraris,30 bikes or absolutely nothing. Surely this should not be a reason for people make up nonsense about my username. One or two have been brave enough to suggest that the fuckwits and sad bastards i spoke about possibly should take a look at themselves.I will say again you are sad bastards and fuckwits.

Each to their own I suppose, you sound like an argument looking for somewhere to happen. By the way the 79 Jotas are a particular pile of trouble and that may be why you got no joy from Keith.

Porsche/Ferrari -In answer to your original question for maintenance/technical info.you basically have a choice between the factory 1000/1200 manual (currently available on eBay,but not perfect in all aspects so I gather),or the Tim Parker Laverda Twin and Triple Repair and Tune Up Guide (Green Book),again not perfect, especially reference bearing sizes for example, although in a rebuild your builder would obviously check and replace like for like.
Copies of Green Books are hard to come by,Phil Todd produced a revised edition some time back so maybe he might scource one for you?
Otherwise It might be an idea for your builder to get in touch with either Phil or maybe Richard Slater over any aspects of the rebuild he needs to verify.
As you say Richard has always been very helpful and although I can`t speak directly for him,am sure he would be willing to help wherever possible.

Great thread - was going to offer some help until I got past the 1st few replies. I can see why Keith, and probably myself, could upset a snowflake type individual. Shame really - always like to help out Motodd owners. - Regards - Phil

I once spoke to Dave Degens at Mallory Park, I was seventeen and owned a Triumph Daytona, which Dave was racing at the time. He spoke to me like a complete c@nt “ ..the trouble with you youngsters is you think it’s all about horsepower …blah… blah..you don’t know about blah, blah with your Japanese blah…”
Many years later he brought a Dresda Honda to my workshop to put on our Dyno….
I still think he’s a c@nt.

Many years ago Dave made me a 3 into 1 exhaust for my rocket 3 - at the time he'd just built a Dresda frame for the Suzuki 500 twins . he reckoned it was so much lighter - that it would leave my R3 for dead. anyway we ended up on the Kingston by pass and went hard from about 50mph - the Suzy was quicker until about 80mph ish and then my R3 got past. Dave then ran out of fuel and hung onto my rear carrier until the next garage. we then went a bit loopy up to Roehampton, where Dave had a bit of a lead, but i thought I'd get on the brakes late and catch him. apart from the fact that Dave was a much quicker rider than me at that time I had a really iffy front tyre that I was about to change as it squirmed all over the place under even normal braking - I'd forgotten that and duly ended up on my arse with the R3 skidding into the side of a concrete roundabout. Of course the next car along was th'old bill. The officer just wound down his window, asked me if I was OK, then drove off - I think he was a believer in self punishment of one's own stupidity. Dave came back and we got the bike sorted enough for me to blunder off home. When i was racing my SF in the CRMC - Dave was allowed in the proddy class on one of his Dresda Triumphs - was very controversial and upset a few people - i did have a few pops at beating him - close but no cigar - except when one time when he broke down!. Dave did ruffle a few feathers in his time and probably still does - but IMHO he's one of motorcycling's great characters- after all i think he's the last rider to win a full GP on a British bike. - Regards - Phil
