Espresso machines

Can someone put a 'Gold Star' on this thread!
11 pages and it is still on topic and not wavered!

I have now been inspired to bring my old Rowenta coffee machine out of 30 year hibernation!
Not in the same league as some of the beauties on here though!

I used to make coffee in an Italian restaurant when a teenager. Worst crime was putting cold milk in!

all of these older small espresso machines are great, And loads of fun to get working again.
It just goes to show how good espresso was important to people.

I found a picture the other day on my computer, that shows a collection, I would sell my sisters children for, somedays Im sure she would even be grateful for me to do that!

Its from 1966 from the flood of the river Arno, in Florence.
La Marzocco , created a bit of a coup and created a bunch of new customers , by exchanging any damaged espresso machine for a brand new one of theirs! It didn't matter what brand you had, theirs or anyone else they swapped them out. A great way to get new customers, and a great way to help people to get espresso during the clean up of the disaster.
In the second picture, the red circle is around a La San Marco disco Volante 3 group lever machine from around 1955, and the blue is around a 4 group lever La San Marco Lollobrigida , I have never seen one in real life.  Its a pretty amazing photo to say the least.

I've ordered 2 kilos in total of 4 different varieties to be sent by Fedex to California. I will savour every single bean and cup. Of course I mentioned the Mallorca connection to Neroscuro.

Amazing photo. A whole new category of barn finds.

Let's hope the thread lives long enough for the beans to arrive and for me to report on them.

I could fix that with one foul swoop. But won?t.  :D

Ran out of Nescaf? this morning, it?s okay everyone, the Mrs is getting more today....phew. Maybe she?ll get something fancy, like powdered espresso flavour

Costco has Illy beans in their stores in Aus. Still pricey, but if you have a decent machine, it's hard to beat.I get mine direct from Illy's site. 2/3 the store prices. Segafredo (in the green bag) also terrific. I sold pallets of the stuff till last year when I finally switched to a local roaster who could do a consistent product. Lavazza. Worth a try also.  All big players from Italy that have worldwide distributorship. Then there is an ever growing of specialty roasters just about everywhere. I use above to benchmark. Some of those support sustainable practices per above posts too.

Hi Paul

You can get parts here
http://www.francescoceccarelli.eu/Faidate/diy-faema.htm

Francesco is trustworthy and doesn?t mess around.  I have ordered from him for my one of these.

If you need elements he knows a few places to get them from .  I have ordered once from him , so he doesn?t know me well.  But everything arrived top top.

As an italian guy, of course i LOVE espresso (even if I don't deny "american coffee" in my north american trips.. i spent several C$ in Tim Horton's!).
obviously it's easy for us to find and try different brands, and, for my experience, one of the best on the big distribution market right now is Pellini Top. I really don't know if you can find it in you country, but if you do, it's worth a try. Similar to Illy, but a couple of steps over!

My girlfrend's grandma lives in front of Segafredo production site! it's great to go there when they roast the seeds: what a wonderful flavour in the air!
she just has to remember not to dry clothes hanged outside those days!  :)
