Garage security

We went to NSW president (Dave Roberts) BBQ in 1992, we had just repaired a dropped valve and was stopping at his house - Eades tried to rip us off with cost of parts and Forcycles got them at trade from them and passed on to us with no mark up (great guys who appreciated what we were doing)
Any one remember the Count (up Newcastle way) and Roy Johnson (with a Corsa)
Yeah that is a perfect example of the spirit of Forcycles genuinely top blokes, lost touch way back, heard Roger was in Uranga? and stopped in a decade or so ago but couldn't find him, anybody got any ideas.
I remember the Count, asked him how he got his name and he just gave me a huge disturbing smile......same guy you reckon? almost wet myself laughing.

Good old Laverda dropped valve syndrome how many hands up on that evil subject?

Would love to catch up with Roger and Marty if anyone can help.

Yeah Pedro just teasing, if I lived in the Whitsundays I wouldn't even leave my deck chair except for coldie

The cause of the dropped valve was human intervention, after 52,000 kms (in 18 months and working in Melbourne for 8 months of those) without a shimming (Steve Winterton at Calere set up a good Laverda) l found 1 shim would spin but would not come off valve stem, everything I did it wouldn’t come off (clearance needed doing) so finally tacked on a bolt and prised off (shim burred up)
When I started up I could hear a faint tinging (nobody else could, even took it to Eades and mechanic said it was the clutch!!!!)
300 kms later that valve bust
All fixed in Sydney with a mixture of new and second hand parts (‘nearly new’ pistons still in bike at 235,000kms)
Photo (if it works) is from inside cover of our photo album cover)

If Norm at Eades worked on it, that's your first problem. They Fucked up my valve guide and valve replacement, and that resulted in 2 seized and bent exhaust valves 400ks later, not enough stem clearance. You had 2 choices of Laverda shops in Sydney back then and both were suse.

what an epic ride, most impressed and you crossed the middle of Oz, I've only done that once and in a car and that was wild (London taxi with a falcon 250 jammed in there for the 89 Redex Bash)

You must have some good stories doing it on two wheels and the rest of the world of course.

0 how was that

Yeah Vince bang on mate don't get me started on the shit I seen around there!

Figured all that out pretty quick but still had to buy the Lav parts of em at the time, no internet not even mobile phones yet.

Norm the whispering Maltese fantasist/liar, his main focus was robbing enough people to compensate for the fact he had burnt the place to the ground recently. (early 80s?)

We got on OK, had some fun but I didn't trust him as far as I could shit which was F**k all in those days, would trust him for almosttwo feet these days for old times sake on a good day cos I can, I've calmed down a bit and my ass isn't as tight as it used to be.

Who else ya talkin about in the game back then?

I will stop now.

No Vince, only Steve W and myself has ever worked on my Laverda, took it to Eades (just outside the shop) for a second opinion on noise and that was a waste of time

Human intervention is a broad tricky thing on any subject and faint tinging sounds cause my sphincter to cavitate and as usual Norm missed it, sorry for your loss, pistons were sold on average at Eades $400-500Aus no rings.

that is only a fresh baby mate and please don't compare Forcycle and Eades or I will never love you as much ever again.

One very good business card the other not so good
Always thought spider was a Hunter but always had a big web each night between bike and tent/tree but don’t think they spin webs, he/she travelled over 1000kms with us before I found it under tool tray after having a web 3 nights on trot View attachment 103590
Yeah Huntsman spiders don't do webs, too busy killing shit.

You may be thinking Orb spider, they can catch humans if you wander about at night with flat awareness batteries.

Meet the Count at Bathurst a couple of years, great times back then

Had a large Redback living under my left sidecover for yonks - well established web, babies, the lot. Seemed to keep to herself until I discovered her and decided she should seek alternative accomm.

Sat down to watch the GF (AFL Grand Final, not Girl Friend) after mowing on rideon, opened a beer (only drank half, must have been really unwell) before I complained of a sore arse, sweats, and getting the flu. In bed by 1/4 time feeling fucked fucked

Three days later 😳, got out of bed to go to Dr about my sore ass.

Dr looked and said, three redback bites on your arse. 😡

Redback had made its home under the seat of the rideon 😡😡
