Help Needed Please - On road - Maybe Stranded

Might be worth a check with Chas Mortimer to see if he has a van in that area.

It is really not that hard to fix by an adept machanic and does not take a lot of time. Would it be easier to get it lifted to one of the reliable people we have on the area. You could then have a bit of a holiday while they repaired it.

It depends what the problem is. You're beeing very secretive.
If it's a cam key, that can be done by the roadside.
If it's not a job needing parts, I can post you gaskets tomorrow.

Considering how to get home or to breganze.

If the 3 x 7mm flange bolts have come out and let the LH cam come to a stop, is it a remotely feasible hotel carpark fix?

For example, will the bolts FUBAR, will they have dropped to the bowels of the motor?

Are there 2 keyways, 1 for each cam, or does one long one go all the way through? If 2 keyways, then could they be ok in the above scenario?

Cheers

The flange studs (6mm) would jam into the cam bearings if the nuts came off. more likely a loose cam in flange has loosened key fit - key is one piece (4mm keyway steel) Without spare parts  a fix wouldn't be so easy for an ordinary bike shop. i've re-plated cam spindle with nickel to effect a repair - not a 5 minute job. - best of luck - have ridden home on a BSa "rocket 2" and a 325cc "Super rocket" before!! - regards - Phil

Thanks Phil.

I'm going to give up.

My plan is to go home by train, get my car and trailer, and pick up the bike and take it to Breganze. The irony is that Jane and I have a holiday planned in Venice, Verona and Como after the Breganze meeting, so I will be in the area! Just not the way I planned it!

Good on ya ....... you may find someone there that can delve into things and sort it out for you! I hope that you can settle into a nice holiday in a few days.

sorry to hear all this Paul, no relay cover though?

Just to cheer you up Ladbrokes and William Hills are evens on you receiving The ILOC Bent Conrod Award next April :D :D

Get your skates on and rush to the bookies real quick though because when they read this post they will close the book....
In addition to the fore mentioned issues we can add...
) Lights stopped working.
) Brake light stopped working.
) Horn and lights come on when steering to full LH lock. Surprised the guy on the ferry when tying the bike down.
) RH horn fell off. Captured by my sexy new wiring though, so not lost  :)
) LH centre stand bolt lost. Despite a nyloc and six billion Newton meters by my own fair hand.i can own up to that one.
) Fuel filler cap button spring gone AWOL, replaced by a rubber earplug.
) RH plug cap failed.
) Speedo needle developing a dramatic jerky movement remmeniscent of a teenage boys wanking hand.
) Every available mm of clutch cable adjustment used up.

However, I am now perched on a bench by a buetiful lake, with a bottle of bierre de abbeye de lyon in one hand and a ham and cheese sandwich in the other. Evening sun on my face as I oggle the French girlies and silently offer them the best 20 seconds of their lives.

You have the best adventures on a Laverda.

Haggis. Stranded but happy.

On a here-wiith-me note, I want to publicly thank Phil Trotter, who has given time, thought, care and friendship beyond the call of duty over the last few days.  My wingman did all he could to keep my Breganze dream alive.... Much beer owed to this titan of generosity.

You must have very dextrous toes to be able to type forum posts while your hands are otherwise employed.

Brave effort with the bike. I don't think I would have left home on a bike that I didn't have confidence in.

Good on you for continuing the holiday. Clould it be worth ringing ahead to Ricardo Oro and booking your bike in for a fix? You could then at least enjoy some rides around that fantastic countryside.
The last time I had a cam flange loosen was on my race bike. My mate reshrunk the flange to the cam by heating a section of the flange with the oxy and cooling the adjacent area with compressed air. The cam did have to be removed for that though, not a vert difficult job on an SF. It has done over ten seasons of racing since then. It sounds like your bike needs/needed a very thorough going over to get sorted out.

I write a list after every ride of what pissed me off, bike wise not food wise, and what broke or needs adjustment. Its now a very short list. What really pisses me off is having the same issue more that once on consecutive rides.

take your time with it at home, Tippies right

"It sounds like your bike needs/needed a very thorough going over to get sorted out".

Oro likely won't have time to drop everything and do a full strip, inspection and repair in a weekend, next weekend.
Sounds to me like something that needs going through thoroughly and that takes time (and money).

The bike will be great when I've done it up.  Before it died I was having a blast. I'm a 3C man, but I wish I had bought a 750 years ago. Talk about under-rated. Handling is spot on, just the way I like it.

I'm nipping home to get my trailer.

Even a breaking Laverda is a wonderful beast, they hold on until the rider gets to somewhere like this before calling it quits:

Hmmm can't seem to post pics from my mobile. Anyway. 33 degrees and all is well with the world.
