a stock 180 type sold on ebay a few days ago for £300, I bid £150, what I wanted to pay, but (obviously) didnt get it, series 2 as Mo points out is extremely rare, but is it RGS (not so rare) IMHO values, series 2 type £450, RGS or 180 series1 type £300. The item you want to sell is called a crankcase.

As stated, the S2 180 is a peculiar case ('scuse the pun) as it was only made for one year. Trying to re-case a S1-180 or RGS type engine gives you a much larger pool of potential parts bikes from which to draw. RGS cases are the same casting but machined differently so can't be directly swapped.

An un-numbered and unused NOS set changed hands twice in AU for $2k some years ago - now held as 'just in case' spares by an 81 owner. I paid AU$1000 to get the original matching-number set back for Andy McNaughton's old 81 Jota that I'm trying to rebuild - but that price took into account a (mild) weld repair due to thrown rod when racing at Bathurst.

Like anything rare and impossible to recreate, it is worth what the market will pay for it. If there is nobody interested it is worth scrap value, if someone wants it and needs it, it can be worth a lot. Ebay is handy for this, describe and photograph it properly, be prepared to ship it worldwide and let the market decide its worth. In good nick and landed in AU I should think it's worth au$1500, I say this as someone who has a set potentially for sale if everything works out with the other set. :) AU prices tend to be higher as there's not so much stuff about, the bikes are popular here, and shipping crankcases from Europe can be painfully expensive as I found out late last year.

Correct, Series 2 180 ND Crank Case. Mine is 7474, so not far away. Mine is a 1981 Jota. Only about 800 built with that configuration. Not 100% sure, but I think to remember that the 120° Jotas already had shifter lever exiting left side with the clutch cover being flat as the RGS and SFC ones.
180° Jota's started around 69xx and ended around 81xx => roughly 1100 - 1200 built. Not sure how many are left over...

I would have thought you could use a series 2 1200 case if you were stuck.
even then, only 550 of them were made. Also, you loose the support of the liner if the crank case is bored out for 1200ccm pistons and liners. That might be fixable with a heat-shrinked ring though possibly?!? Not sure...

Maybe not so much for not beeing supported, but heat distribution is different and also I am not sure if the studs are so tight in the holes that they fix the cylinder on the engine case enough so it can't move. Piet knows for sure better, but I think there is a reason they had 1000 and 1200 crank cases... ;-)

Series 2 x 1000 first one 7237 last at around 8135 so 898 x 1000's made
Series 2 x 1200 first 3063 last 3613 so 550 made

I considered buying that set of cases but already have 2 x sets of Series 2 cases in stock and a 3rd case that I use for parts
As in cut pieces off of it to make repairs to other cases

120 Jota has the rarest of cases, externally similar to a Series 2 case, internally similar to 120 engine

Thanks for keeping me honest here, Red. I mixed up production year 1981 (which started with 69xx) and start of series 2 180° engines in the last sentence ... :cautious: sorry for that
