OK, Paul, I'll bite, name one French rock, blues, pop, jazz, heavy metal band that anyone outside of France may be familiar with, and with a following that lasted more than 6 months (and Iam being generous with this) Karaoke Milli Vanilli excluded . Go start now!.

This weekend is the 'Power Trip Music Festival' here in the Coachella Valley, lots of French people here for the festival not one French band. With one particular band who has the 'biggest balls of them all" HA ha HAAAAA.

Incidentally, Jacques Dutronc is Françoise Hardy's lifelong partner. The English for some reason like Françoise Hardy who is long forgotten here except amongst old people.
The much regretted Belgian singer Arno mixed the two .

That is exactly my point.
The anglo-saxon world, thanks to the Royal Navy in the past and the US dollar more recently is totally egocentric and the above examples shows that foreign songs mainly exist only if they're culturally colonised.
As for French musicians, singers and bands, the list would be too long.

Ever heard of World Music? Music from everywhere can be popular as long as it’s good and all sorts of genres within that heading have been successful in the English speaking world. France’s contribution seems to be limited to Le Chanson. Django, while a French citizen, was a Gypsy by birth and culture, his collaborator and close friend Stephane Grappelli might be a better example. Either way this is music from the last century, twenty three years into the new one, the French contribution to popular music is conspicuously absent. Having said that, we do enjoy what The Avener has done in the last few years although his most recent work is not as good.

I believe Phil Oakey had Roger Winterburn build him a Spondon framed triple as well ......... Winterburn offered frame kits for the triple in the early `eighties , presumbably built to order by Spondon ( count them on the fingers of a mitten , probably ... ) ........... Oakey comes from Leicestershire , and Windy Corner were based there also ......

Django Reinhardt was a French citizen which is the definition of French even though some consider "race" to be a determining factor. Remember where that leads, I think we've already discussed that concerning a member of your family in Lithuania in the early 40s.
The French contribution to popular music is conspicuously absent in your world, which is what I've been pointing out from the start.

As for world music, in France we would refer to it as soup as in dipping a carrot in warm water and calling it soup. Who produces this world music? Who'se money is behind it and who's profiting from selling crap to the masses?

I have some of their albums " Music from the Tea lands" " Dublin to Dakar" " Gypsy caravan" to name a few. All compilations featuring various artists ,with a decent bio on each artist, brilliant original music . If it were a soup it would be a good Minestrone or a Pea and Ham . Definitely not crap for the masses.
