LaverdaForum funding options

I originally thought ann subscription would be simplest, but reading this thread many good points raised.
Ann fee would create admin and possible alienation of prospective members / Lav owners (who may be unsure but would definately benefit from this resource rather than the plethora of facebook throwaway conversation type social media)
Little doubt most regular users would donate sufficient to cover and I am happy to contribute whatever way is decided.
Actually some merit in being funded by way of small contribution from interested Lav clubs around the world, who could be listed as sponsors?

Maybe what should happen is the ILOC forum should join with this one and bring all the information etc under one roof. The ILOC could cover the cost of the forum , lets call it a gesture , to the Laverda 'family' that we all belong to.

I am not a fan of that I must say. Not because of it being the ILOC, it is because I do not like clubs at all. Again, the following is not about ILOC, it is my general experience with clubs: Most of them are heaving to much overhead and people are engaging because they want to have a title or dominate something.

Tying the forum to one club potentially upsets also the others. I don't like that idea at all. I know your intention was good, but I see more problems coming than what it would solve. Pretty sure I get stones now thrown at me in defence of the ILOC, but I would have said the same if it was a german Laverda club or a swiss or US one. It is not about ILOC (how could it, I have no insight there), it is a general recommendation to stay independent of any club, please.
 
Just reiterating - the wonderful thing about the internet has been that it is (basically) free - we who use this site regularly are surely happy to throw some oats in the saucepan, but making it a compulsory subscription rather than a donation via a 'fundraising week' goes completely against that tenet of free and ready access to all - I don't care if there are freeloaders; any of them who are serious Laverda owners and fettlers would surely see benefit in supporting the cause, but if not, no big deal.
 
Hmmm there are some good ideas coming in.. but I vote for voluntary donations. If it works then it’s as close to perfect as you can get. People will pay if they can and those who object can keep their hands in their pockets. Simpler accounting, no website reorganisation, no need to accommodate other entities, no arguments about paywalled content available elsewhere.
If it doesn’t work, well, we’ll have another thread about making it compulsory ;)

(PS this may mean advertising will require a mandatory donation)

I agree ...... but it's a long way from British Columbia to come drop off my old Bank of Scotland 1£ notes ........ which may not be appreciated. In fact ........ I am quite sure they have depreciated ....... a lot!

Direct bank transfer would be a viable option within UK, but bank transfer isn't quite so simple for international payments. Well, not the last time I tried anyway, which admittedly was a few years ago. Maybe they've made it simpler since then.

PayPal is probably the simplest and safest option for international donors, despite the "robbing bastards" taking a %. Although they're providing a service so a small fee is fair enough.

"PayPal Donate Button" seems to be the best option at the moment in my opinion. Freeloaders / Small % , who cares. We will easily cover costs I believe. I think donations should remain anonymous , I would prefer not to know who has or has not donated.
 
I'm with Cosi. Should be free and those who want to contribute will contribute and I bet you'll raise way more than the annual costs.
Also I don't want to know who's contribute and who hasn't. Bring on the PayPal button.
 
Im with Cosi but in addition you could charge a fee for advertising in the for sale / wanted sections. To me it seems fairer if the traders are made to pay for what they get.
 
I'm in however you want to do it but like the idea of the easy to see PayPal button maybe as part of an annual funding drive. I would hope this would easily provide the required funds.
