Ok, where do I donate😀👍 Seriously think that a voluntary donation is probably the best way to go. Witness the fantastic efforts the forum members made when Terry and Ian needed a bit of help after the fires, I think we’ll have no problem raising the required amount. Not that keen on seeing who donated. Just my $5 bucks worth😀👍

Hi Rob /Paul, me and Benny will gladly pay an annual fee. The conditions for other types of user are down to you as you've gone to the trouble of building and monitoring the site. Regards Andy and Benny 😁
 
For those who want a yearly fee - you can easily set up a yearly bank transfer from your side for f.e. 5 - 10 Pounds and leave the others that want to do it on a donation amount base donating what ever they want. I like the idea of the funding week, too, which would focus the donations to one week - job done! Who pays pays and who does not see the value - so may be it. Pretty sure, way more money gets raised than asked for.
 
Simplicity is surely the most important thing - I favour donations. I do it every year for Wikipedia which is another resource I value. I think they set a target each year and people donate - once the target is reached it closes off. So figure out a budget and then request donations - if it is not reached we keep plugging the members to contribute. I don't think you want to have a surplus because that would require some kind of governance and would become a source of potential debate and so forth.

I would be a very happy to provide a donation. It's utterly unacceptable that brother Rob is facing payment of money, let alone all his valuable time.

A parellel tack... How about and business advertisers-only sub-forum, where, for a few bucks a dealer could announce 'hey guys, I have just had a batch of previously unobtainable widgets made, contact me for further info'. Not a place for replies or discussion of any sort (we have seen how brusing that can be) - just announcements. Might not work, as the admin effort might outweigh the income, but worth a moments tought.
 
It is great that some one gives some of his time to keep the forum working.
I don't think that we need an accountant, an advertising secretary, a membership secretary and God knows what else.

I don't think that clubs should be called upon to participate. They can of course do so anonymously if they like.

Keep it simple, keep it voluntary, keep it anonymous.

And if that doesn't work, there's plenty of time to seek another solution.

I look in almost every day dispite not posting much.
I'm more than happy to pay an annual fee or donation.. if the latter, can it be set up, and paid as a pay pal gift, which it would be.. That would be easy for me.

So - so far 77 people have bothered to vote - and I'll surmise that each of those voters is happy to pay. if each of us paid A$5 that would go close to covering a years costs already! Too bloody easy. Can't we argue about this for a couple of hundred more pages?!! :love:
 
Wow - thanks chaps. Plenty of useful comment and feedback. I've decided to try the Donate option and see how it goes.

I'll nail up a PayPal donate button and take it down once I've covered this year's costs. Any surplus will be held over for next year. Fees are 2.9% plus a fixed amount depending on currency - around 30p/30-35c

For those who prefer to avoid PayPal fees, I can supply bank account details for both £ (GBP) and € (EUR) transfers. Please request this via a message (Conversation envelope icon up by your login username) or email admin [at] laverdaforum.com

I should also be able to take payments in $ AUD and $ US (the latter needs to use ACH rather than wire transfer to avoid a €7.50 charge) using bank details from my Transferwise account. Oh, and Chilean pesos if you prefer! :LOL: Again contact me for account details.

PayPal and bank payments use a personal account in my name (Robert Bradbury). Transferwise use a local in-country bank account as the intermediary.

I'll keep a record of all donations - please add your forum name to the payment detail so I can reconcile.

Running an army is much easier than running a forum or a club. You just shoot those who disobey.

It seems to me that the forum is nothing without the knowledgeable hard-core who make regular contributions and various levels of trader, who mostly seem to be enthusiasts. Encouraging interest in Laverda with free access is to all our benefit, so I'm happy to contribute (y)
