MotoGadget

the whole point of the Motogadget kit is to reduce the wiring to a few wires
and when you are building a custom bike as I am that is a huge advantage

I worked with a real smart guy many years ago who did work on fighter jets.....his focus was to reduce the wiring to reduce the weight of the plane. Huge benefits in doing this on a fighter jet, not so much on a custom Harley.

Chris, I love those Raised Stainless cap heads, big washers and nilocks, all my go-to decorative fixings as well.

In the last couple of years I got all the way back up to 22 bikes, then all the way back down to 7. Some of the more interesting bikes I rebuilt, rode for a while, and sold were a 1997 Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro 8 valve, a 2007 Moto Guzzi California Vintage, some wrecks, some bikes left sitting for a long while (including a virtually new Honda CBR 150 that was ridden for a few weeks then parked for many many years), etc.

In the past several months I have started another 6 motorcycle projects, all non runners. A 1966 Puch 250 two stroke "twingle" (2 pistons sharing a single common combustion chamber - left abandoned for 45 + years), a 1999 Kawasaki 1000 Concours with a cam chain issue, a 2008 Kawasaki 500 EX Ninja R with carb and ignition issues, a 1978 Kawasaki KZ 750 twin with all sorts of issues including non functional charging system, a 1982 Honda CX 500, and a 1978 Honda CB 750 F single cam with all sorts of issues.

Both Honda's and the KZ 750 are were slated to be "cafe racers" on one sort or another. Suzuki GSXR front ends on both Honda's, lots of Cognito Moto parts, aluminum bodywork, from Thailand, aftermarket ignitions and charging systems, and a bunch of Moto Gadget stuff. A selection of photos follow in this thread.

1966 Puch 250 two stroke twingle. It is eligible for the Moto Giro September 2026. My 1957 Gilera 150 that I built is soooooo slow.....

1978 Kawasaki KZ 750. Mono shocked with a later Kawasaki Ninja rear. Heavily modified frame. Stock tank, custom tail, custom front fender. The photo showing it perios Kawasaki green is a loosely assembled mockup using spray cans. I have fitted a Ricks Electrics high output sator and appropriate lithium compatible regulator/recifier with a tiny lithium battery in the tail, a carb conversion from Murrays Carbs, etc.

Bodywork is now out at local custom painter, Tom at "The Barn", is be done in current Kawasaki H2 SX SE dark metallic green, spark metallic black, and silver. I picked the colours and left him with instructions to do whatever he wants......

1982 Honda CX 500. Finished this in August. Custom aluminum bodywork from Thailand. MAD exhaust, carb conversion from Murrays carbs, custom ignition/charging from Rae-San. MotoGadget M Unit Blue and associated bits. Runs really well. Not overly fast but hums right along. Limited fuel range. The photo of the bike out in the foothills outside of Calgary was taken when I ran out of fuel........

1978 Honda 750 F single cam. Currently on my work bench. Waiting on last of the parts to arrive.

M Unit Blue with Mo button and quite a list of Moto Gadget accessories, mirrors, gauges, control buttons, turn signals, M relays, GPS speedo, electronic tach, etc..

Keihin CR round slide carbs, Dyna ignition, custom made Hindle stainless steel 4 into 2 into 1.

MotoCognito wheels, Fox shocks, GSXR 1000 front end with Cognito Moto tripe tree longer stem and custom top clamp

bunch of other stuff. Waiting on delivery of Tomasselli adjustable riser clip ons and some other stuff, hopefully here next week, then will finish up wiring and assembly.

lots of heavy snow here right now, so no test riding until spring, then a decision to be made whether it will be treated to a high compression 1000 cc engine build........

sorry, not Laverda, but I was asked to post some photos of current non Laverda projects. I would be thrilled to take on another Laverda triple rebuild if I could ever find one, right price, right condition......

Great to see you've been so busy doing fun stuff like building specials, Paul! The CX is my fave - surely you're the only person who's created one that rad!

Have you got a bulk-purchase deal for GSX-R1000 front ends from wreckers?!

Years ago, one of the Melbourne blokes owned a full alloy bodywork Laverda triple; Colin Wills, I think, was the name. The front guard was a work of art. I think the bodywork ended up on a bunch of bikes. No idea why. Cripin ended up with that front guard. Some people are just so talented. Love your exhausts, Paul. That's one crazy mega on the Honda 4.

on the four cylinder CB 750, the exhaust has been made by Hindle https://www.hindle.com/ they are a Canadian company, still family owned, and have been around for decades. They also custom made for me an exhaust for my 2022 Kawasaki H2 SX SE before there was an exhaust commercially available for the model year change. Nice people to deal with.

the GSXR front ends are tricky to obtain. Best is to buy the entire front end, including triple trees, handlebars, controls, wheel with brakes, etc.. Problem is that when they are crashed it depends how they were crashed and how badly.... Have to do a lot of hunting around and sometimes have to mix and match. The local old bike wrecker is called The Old Motorcycle Shop. They currently have on their eBay web store over 22,000 used motorcycle parts. I have been there in person so often over the better part of the past year and bought so much stuff the owner has now offered me personal use of his aquablast cabinet;)(y)

Covid wiped out all the bike wrecking shops in Sydney. The last 2nd-hand bit I bought was a Yamaha keyed ignition switch for my Atlas, came from an online wrecker in Townville, more than 2000 km away. It's such a shame, I loved getting bits in person from Bike Wreckers.

Loving the 750 Paul, I purchased a spoked front spoked hub for a GSXR front end, but they didn’t offer a rear wire spoked hub. Your two piece rear hub has me curious. Any details you can share?

sort of correct Vince, guys name was Colin Will, he worked for Halliburton as a Cementer on Oil & Gas rigs
He built the bike based around an Egli frame though the frame was not made by Egli, think it was made by Terry Prince who made at least two of those frames
Shortly after the bike was finished it was crashed which totaled the fairing, seat unit and the tank, I saw the 2nd frame with the damaged tank later on and was offered it for sale as well but declined to buy it

I wound up buying Colin's bike but was not that impressed with the rear suspension set up, sitting on the bike lifter when you revved the engine the whole back of the bike squatted down quite a lot
Thought about redesigning it to make it work better but in the end sold the bike to Crispin as had found a brand new never used Mk 3 Motodd frame in the UK which I bought as well as a Mk 4 Motodd which I sold before it even left the UK
Then I built the Mk 3 Motodd but sold it to Mike as decided the Scorch frames were a better design

Bike as finished by Colin
