motogp (where's Tina?)

So, with Cal second fastest during yesterdays practice both Rossi and Lorenzo say that he is a dark horse for the title. Pedrosa was way down the order yesterday cos he was struggling with corner entry issues. Rossi is pleased with yeserday's outcome due to the fact that he only used a single set of tyres throughout.

The last 28 MotoGP races have been won by either Lorenzo, Pedrosa or Stoner since Spies' win at Assen in '11. Lets see who wins it this time...

oh and Lorenzo has a special helmet design this weekend, he has a glowing helmet *snigger*

Marquez has topped 2nd and 3rd practice.  Although it's way too early to extrapolate too much, I'd be surprised if Dani's not got a sinking feeling deep in his guts.  The track is dusty and times are half a second off last year still, so not much to go on just yet.  Marquez is quickly proving to be up to all the hype and then some.
My general feeling for the season is that dani and jorge will be the pacesetters, but rossi and marquez will biff and barge their way in front and I'd be highly surprised for the season - even the first race - to go by without some serious controversy and/or big crashes.  Injuries may well determine the end result, and Rossi's legendary rubber bones will hold him in good stead if his luck holds.
I doubt Yamaha will allow the satelite bike of Cal to go fast enough to get in the way of the factory guys, too much loss of face.  Rossi is madly talking himself down and everyone else up so as to take the focus off himself and it's worked, with few journo's tipping him for the title.  They've got short memories then, he'll be trying harder than ever to win his first race back with Yamaha - trying to emulate the good old days in 2004.

Great to have the season underway at last, can't wait.

How's that 'glow' helmet of Jorge's.. gonna look brilliant under lights of Qatar.. if nothing else it might be a battle of the helmets between the Yamaha lads this year.. :P

Let's go racing..

Well, I thought it was one of the most exciting races in recent memory.
Pedrosa must have that sinking feeling again, another team mate outshining him.

Don't look now, but we've got a Championship on our hands.

Lorenzo, just like last year ran away with the win in Qatar, leaving Pedrosa, Marquez, Crutchlow,Rossi and the rest to battle it out behind him.

But first lets talk about the moto2 and moto3.

First came the Moto3 race, Louis Salom ended up the victor after a nice battle between Maverick Vi?alres, Alex Rins and Marc Marquez's younger brother Alex Marquez. They gave an epic last 5 lap battle with multiple passes and drama til the end.

Moto2 didnt give us as much drama, the youngest of the Espargar?s, Pol, ended up winning after battling out the last two laps with Scott Redding, Scott said himself in the post race interviews that after a while he gave up challenging Pol cos he cut it fine a couple of times and almost rammed into his rear tyre so he settled with second. The Japanese Nakagami looked like a surefire winner at the start of the race after a runaway lead, he'd previously been trained in the Motogp academy in spain only to drop out, then the Japanese motor racing federation funded him and gave him the best factory bikes to race on in the Japanese championship; after that leading him on to moto2 where after 2 years he is finally showing everyone why they japanese had faith in him, sadly he didnt have the pace to keep up with the leading pair.

Now to the main event, MotoGP.
Well I was happy with it, edge of my seat, knuckle biting action...
My other half didnt seem so pleased, said once Lorenzo had taken the lead and Rossi made that mistake that lead him back to 8th it seemed like every lap was a repeat of the last... I dont know about you guys, but i found it thrilling, i found myself trying to explain that each lap that went by Rossi was taking tenths of a second off of Crutchlow in front of him in 4th position, that Wayne Rainey himself said that if anyone could catch up a 5 second lead it could be Valentino Rossi.
Marquez showed off his prowess today. I keep expecting him to do a Lorenzo, when he joined Motogp he was astounding, breaking records, getting on podiums, until POW!
He finallly found his limit and crashed, again and again, finally breaking both his ankles.
We might not have that this time, we might have another Valentino Rossi on our hands, young talent, excited and willing, he was grinning like a cheshire cat on the podium, you never saw Pedrosa do that when he got his first podium in Motogp. Not since Rossi have we had a world champion that has come up from winning championships in BOTH lower championships, both Casey and Jorge won in the 250s having failed to make any sort of dent in the 125cc championships and the only other one before them was Nicky Hayden and he only managed it in the AMAs.

Back to the race, after dropping down the ranks Rossi managed to get back to the front (thats more like it, back to the old Valentino that we know and love, that can be given a 10 second penalty and still win the race, eg. phillip island 2003), he caught up to Crutchlow, then Pedrosa and finally to Marquez that showed "cojones" and gave his idol a fight back. Its mad to think he grew up with posters of Rossi on his walls and there he was, head to head with the guy.

Today is the first time since the Portuguese GP in 2010 that Yamaha have taken the top two places in MotoGP.

The GOAT is back.
Who misses "the fisherman"?
Not me. You keep on fishing... ( or keep on joining up your baby daugher to beauty pageants... you gotta keep those pay checks rolling in somehow https://twitter.com/Official_CS27/status/309062076402397184  )

(this is me trying not to be too opinionated, if you want opinionated then listen to SofaRacer, much wittier and funnier than me, well he has got a good few years on me... http://motomatters.com/blog/2013/03/04/sofaracer_speaks_of_homer_s_odyssey_dona.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MotoGPMatters+%28MotoMatters%29 )

Can't believe the dunderheads at Channel 10, the gp race was on at 5AM this morning, so they are repeating it....at 2am tomorrow morning!! FFS total dickheads......

Just watched it,thankfully the IQ recording worked properly, not like for Qualifying with mostly Nasscar. What a no holds bared punch up in Moto2 and the GP.Its going to be one hell of a season.Rossi out of juice on the cooldown lap,the go button got a workout.

A phenomenal race. If Rossi hadn't messed up on an early corner, the times he was posting meant he would have caught Lorenzo. Pedroza must be well hacked off with his race. And Ducati must be thinking, maybe we should have given that contract to Crutchlow after all.

Avanti!

I noticed that Rossi started on a Yamaha but returned to the pits on a Ducati  :D
wonder what the Yamaha bosses thought of that

Drikko, don't waste your time watching those dickheads on Ch10 and have to put up with ads and the drone of Dazza. Download Eurosports or BBC telecasts, great commentary at times funny and no ads and watch it in your time!

had a look at BBC, all there is is stuff about some unknown old hag pollie karking it.

BBC says the MotoGP is only available in UK only and eurosports wants money....... but I did find it free on piratebay so no worries :)

Now he has 2 years of baggage off his back, just watch the rest of the season.

I've given up trying to record it on TV. They put it on at ungodly hours then mess about with the advertised times so you end up recording half of it.

I download it as a bit torrent and watch it on the computer. It's free, and qick to download.

And the twits at 10 are still trying to figure out how they lost 250mil last year.

Lets see, drop the AFL coverage and the advertising income that came with it, and then put every other sport of interest to anyone on delayed broadcast at decidedly uncivil hours.

Complete tossers.

It seems the whole world enjoyed it!* This from Yamaha:

Spanish TV saw its Tele5 broadcast increase by a whopping 44.6% over last year?s audience for the race with 4.5 million viewers, with a peak of 5.2 million, taking a 25.2% of the country?s audience share. Meanwhile, Italian television, bolstered by the highly anticipated return of Valentino Rossi on his beloved Yamaha M1, saw audiences go up to 5.28 million ? peaking up to 6.63 million - for the race under the floodlights with a 17.5% broadcast share.
Cal Crutchlow?s early pre-season form looked to have triggered a humungous increase in British audiences, as nearly 75% more people tuned in over the previous year, with 1.7 million viewers witnessing the action, during which figures peaked at 2 million. Germany turned up in force once again as well, as 410,000 MotoGP fans saw their local hero Stefan Bradl unfortunately crash out after the tough battle with nine-time world champion Rossi.
In addition to the regular TV broadcast, the MotoGP season-opener was also available on over 40 planes featuring Sport24, the 24/7 live sports channel produced and distributed by IMG Media exclusively for the in-flight and in-ship markets, bringing MotoGP Live coverage to selected flights operated by Gulf Air, Lufthansa, Emirates & Turkish Airlines.

*Except Australia, maybe...  ;)

btw To view BBC, download expatshield or similar to get a UK IP address.  :)

Someone asked by PM how to download it. It may be of interest to others so here's how ...

OK. You can download TV programs, movies, etc. as bit torrents. For an explanation of bit torrents, here's a wiki reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

First you need to download and install a bit torrent downloader. I use Bitlord http://www.bitlord.com/. It's free software that takes a few minutes to download and install if you have a broadband connection. There are other free torrent downloaders that do the same job.

Once you have Bitlord (or some other torrent downloader) installed, start it up and go to the search box. Search for MotoGP and it'll bring up a whole list of them. I chose the "Regency" version of Qatar 3013 because the commentary is in English. There were a bunch of Spanish ones there too.

Just click on the program you want then hit the "Download" button. It'll start downloading immediately. With my ADSL2 connection, it took about 15 minutes to download the full 1½ hours of program.

When it has finished downloading, you can play the downloaded file. If you double click on it, it'll open in your MP4 player or whatever your default video player is.

Cheers,
Cam
