Don't look now, but we've got a Championship on our hands.
Lorenzo, just like last year ran away with the win in Qatar, leaving Pedrosa, Marquez, Crutchlow,Rossi and the rest to battle it out behind him.
But first lets talk about the moto2 and moto3.
First came the Moto3 race, Louis Salom ended up the victor after a nice battle between Maverick Vi?alres, Alex Rins and Marc Marquez's younger brother Alex Marquez. They gave an epic last 5 lap battle with multiple passes and drama til the end.
Moto2 didnt give us as much drama, the youngest of the Espargar?s, Pol, ended up winning after battling out the last two laps with Scott Redding, Scott said himself in the post race interviews that after a while he gave up challenging Pol cos he cut it fine a couple of times and almost rammed into his rear tyre so he settled with second. The Japanese Nakagami looked like a surefire winner at the start of the race after a runaway lead, he'd previously been trained in the Motogp academy in spain only to drop out, then the Japanese motor racing federation funded him and gave him the best factory bikes to race on in the Japanese championship; after that leading him on to moto2 where after 2 years he is finally showing everyone why they japanese had faith in him, sadly he didnt have the pace to keep up with the leading pair.
Now to the main event, MotoGP.
Well I was happy with it, edge of my seat, knuckle biting action...
My other half didnt seem so pleased, said once Lorenzo had taken the lead and Rossi made that mistake that lead him back to 8th it seemed like every lap was a repeat of the last... I dont know about you guys, but i found it thrilling, i found myself trying to explain that each lap that went by Rossi was taking tenths of a second off of Crutchlow in front of him in 4th position, that Wayne Rainey himself said that if anyone could catch up a 5 second lead it could be Valentino Rossi.
Marquez showed off his prowess today. I keep expecting him to do a Lorenzo, when he joined Motogp he was astounding, breaking records, getting on podiums, until POW!
He finallly found his limit and crashed, again and again, finally breaking both his ankles.
We might not have that this time, we might have another Valentino Rossi on our hands, young talent, excited and willing, he was grinning like a cheshire cat on the podium, you never saw Pedrosa do that when he got his first podium in Motogp. Not since Rossi have we had a world champion that has come up from winning championships in BOTH lower championships, both Casey and Jorge won in the 250s having failed to make any sort of dent in the 125cc championships and the only other one before them was Nicky Hayden and he only managed it in the AMAs.
Back to the race, after dropping down the ranks Rossi managed to get back to the front (thats more like it, back to the old Valentino that we know and love, that can be given a 10 second penalty and still win the race, eg. phillip island 2003), he caught up to Crutchlow, then Pedrosa and finally to Marquez that showed "cojones" and gave his idol a fight back. Its mad to think he grew up with posters of Rossi on his walls and there he was, head to head with the guy.
Today is the first time since the Portuguese GP in 2010 that Yamaha have taken the top two places in MotoGP.
The GOAT is back.
Who misses "the fisherman"?
