Yes I had the cases apart and the detent roller was a bit reluctant to move position when I turned the selector by hand. I got it to work reasonably easily eventually and all the gears selected. I just assumed the gearchange wouldn't be a knife through butter job for a while. We will see what happens when I adjust the selector mechanism although it looked ok when I installed it. You never know what abuse these Spanish bikes have suffered in their short lives.
 
Sounds promising, mine was a mare to get right when I first got the bike, would change up okay but coming down would constantly get stuck in third until at a standstill.
Lots of playing with the outer cover position improved things but eventually adjusting the gear change spring on the eccentric adjuster cured it 👍
 
There are numerous potential pitfalls with the outer cover mechanism, from springs fouling between the stop arm and the eccentric, to outer outer case binding on the pin drum etc etc
 
Success! Took the selector cover off and checked everything out. The spring on the gear lever shaft was fouling the mechanism on up changes so I bent the straight spring arm out of the way. Hey presto, gears working! Detent obviously working fine.

Gear change is quite sweet and is coupled with a very light clutch.
Just a few little jobs now, secure the battery and tidy the wiring up being two of them, then fit the collector box I bought. The system is sort of hanging together at the moment.
So, a year late and slightly over the £5 budget but what the hell, it's alive as Dr Frankenstein would say, can't wait to use it.

Just did a bit of adding up, starting with a free bike, doing hardly any cosmetics and using lots of parts I had already this bike cost a minimum of £1350 to get back to a running driving state. I think the value of the parts I had stashed away would be quite high if I calculated it too. I also got a lot of bargain fuel and brake parts from Ducatipaddy when he was closing down so that kept the price down a bit.
It's a bit more than my original £5 estimate mind you but my mother always said I was no good with money and the bike is only worth anything to me anyway now it's done.
Is that success or failure? I don't know but the project did keep me going when I was quite ill so I'll say yes.
