New member searching for a good Jota

Hello all
I have been lurking for a while and now find myself in the position to buy one. I did have a gentleman give me some advice at the Popham Airfield meet last year. Basically buy cheap and throw lots of money at it. Then I would know what had been done. Unfortunately that means a potentially long wait whilst someone clever fettles. I have been riding for many decades and time is running out so I need to find a "ready made" one. There are a couple of Jotas on Car and Classic (Bike) at the moment, one in particular up Yorkshire way. The hard part at the moment is narrowing down who did the work on the bike. The second is a gold coloured one that looks like it has been totally rebuilt.

Are there any others for sale that members know about?

Thanks.

I sold my JOTA to my freind for some years ago, it have never drive

They're all good, the best, the best of all... if you want to believe the vendors. There's loads of polished turds around.

Do your homework, listen to the real experts (not the guy whos sister-in-law had a friend that once rode one around the block), avoid paying a premium for a piece of paper and, above all, don't wet your pants at the first sight of shiny orange paint...;).

Might be an idea to contact Grant Duguid in Helensburgh, he often has something nice on offer.

from personal experience it,s best to find out who did any engine work, if they have a good reputation, and have a compression test made. if it,s not running, walk away-otherwise, you,re buying someone else,s troubles. Laverda parts are near and dear and labor is expensive. I would avoid the gold colored space frame since it looks incomplete and has been for sale for some time. buy one from a Forum member-

Agree that buying from a Forum member is a great way to get a very honest appraisal of a bike's history. As we age, they seem to be coming up more often on here.

Thanks for the information so far. Yes...I did think of going to Willersey as I am south of Newbury and it would be a day out. Would I be tarred and feathered if I turned up on a non Laverda?

Yes come along it will be full of Laverda's and being the anniversary celebration of the Jota I can't think of a better place to get a proper insight and information about ownership of one, get the right bike and you certainly won't be disappointed, hope to see you there

Why a Jota? I much prefer a regular 3C.

The Jota is faster but for touring or a Sunday morning ride, the 3C is a better bike. Unless you ride with the tachometer up near the red line, you are never going to notice the extra 10 HP.

Plenty of opinions but I think if you have been hanging out for a Jota and this is going to be your only shot at a Laverda then don’t compromise. Properly sorted they’re brilliant and responsive. As for all-day riding, I find the forward leaning position actually works well for my rather stuffed back as road bumps are better absorbed.

Given a choice I would get the Jota ,
Ridden a mirage and although nice lacked the raw-ness of my Jota.
I regularly do 200 to 300 k rides with the odd 1400 k trip.
For me at 6'2"and a bit it fits well.
