New Toy (non Laverda)

The rear is tight - minor frame mods to suit the pivot plus a gearbox sprocket which has been offset by 8mm. Other than that fitted fine. Forks do limit bar movement a little (stops had to be shimmed 3mm each side). Only other issue is it is a little lower than original so the chambers can rub if too enthusiastic.

Thomas,
Didn't mean the cost to buy the RD 50. IIRC the insurance for 49cc with big registration plate ( Kleinkraftrad ) was up to 1000 Deutsch Mark at the time.

1970s. Suzuki water bottle GT750. Bridge-ported motor, expansion chambers. Longer Koni’s at the rear, Trickit front suspension, reversed calipers. Dunstall fairing. Run 1,000 rpm into redline all day (9,000). Run past flat-chat Z1s with the missus on the back, and then change into top just to demoralise them, but they all passed me in the servo - best I ever got out of it was 16mpg.
Mid 12‘s at the old Adelaide International Raceway, blew the clutch out of the sidecover adjacent to my right foot on the second pass. Clutch basket and side cover cost me a few hundred bucks in 1976 money.

Had an R5 some 30 years ago. Tuned it and rode it flat out whenever I could, usually accompanied by one or two friends on Kawasaki H1 triples. Despite all the punishment I don't remember it breaking down much, could be my memory though. Always regretted selling it. A couple of years ago I found a great example at a bikeshop in The Netherlands and bought it. Don't ride it all that much but it's nice having one again.
