- I guess that is not arguable... :'(
Please let me know whats arguable with our hobbies...
Well - my wife is a tax consultant. as such, she is very much into logical decisions and calculations. If you can show something pays off at the end, she is in. If you can't, you are in trouble...
With my bikes I never fail to show her when something is at least cost neutral. F.e. I purchased my 1000 SFC 12 years ago for 11.000 DM, which would be roughly 5.500? today. Even though I invested into a 3-1 exhaust (1.000?), Carbs (900?) and paint (400?) as well as some rubber, rims and brakes (2.000?), the bikes value still would pay back what I have invested (especially if I would sell all parts separately that I have in spare now, like the original rims, brake rotors, calipers etc. etc. etc. ). That is something I can argue with for more bikes. Same with the 750 SF (0) I restored. I ended up with cost of roughly 7.000?, drove it for 2 years and sold it for 7.200? and sold another 1.000? of parts that I had left over. Arguable I would say.
The 1000 SFC Classic I am currently restoring will cost all in all at the end roughly 10.000?, fully serviced and ready to be sold. Might sell it for that price, maybe a bit more - we'll see. At least cost neutral.
The good thing is that with oldtimers, time plays for you...

at least in most cases...
