No more PS

Just found these on my laptop -musta been mad..

I always enjoy looking at pictures like these ........ makes me feel happier about the state of my own bikes ...... :) ......

There was also a T150 Trident , and BMW R100 , as well as the Mirage ........ Last thing I read was that the chap who took on the T150 had sorted the cycle parts , but had still to start on the engine , which was in a similar , or worse state than the Mirage ........

Not sure about the BMW , which had a small tree growing through it , I think ( or maybe that was the Trident ) .......... Nice to see the Trident and Mirage getting sorted ........ As far as the BMW is concerned , well I suppose it would be nice to have that going again , as well ..... ( I guess ) ......

( Sorry if that sounds like I have a bit of a down on Bavarian Tractors ........ don`t really ..... not much ....... the litre sports bikes are ok- ish . although like all modern bikes , a bit too clever for their own good ...... and the number of BMW GS`s you see out on the roads ....... I reckon BMW must have made more of them than Honda made C90`s , or BSA made Bantams ....... ) ........

Regarding bikes that haven`t moved for a long time ...... There`s a bloke who lives across the road from me who`s GS1150 lives in the gutter for what must be at least 50 weeks of the year , never moving an inch ....... Then when the sun comes out he starts it up , and phut - phut`s off up the road to work on it ....... Never seen him do as much as check the tyre pressures , but on the four or five times a year he uses it , it always seems to get him home again , so maybe they do have something going for them after all ........

BTW ....... In Classic BIke there was a BMW GS advertised for sale recently ........ excellent condition , regularly serviced etc . ..... " Never Seen Rain " ........ !! ....... What sort of an adventure bike is that ... ? ...........

I've always wanted a mirage as its the bike that made me notice bikes as a kid (neighbours one made our windows rattle such was the din) so was a huge leap of faith taking on this one.
the bloke who had the t150 sent Chris a video of him undoing an engine cover and water piddling out -rare water cooled one obv....
think BMW hasn't moved since we sold it but sure he will do so eventually and hopefully he doesn't "cafe" it with a brown seat etc .

Exactly !! ........... :) ..... ( Although I have to admit , I`m now a bit guilty of not venturing out in bad weather , unless I absolutely have to ........ When I was riding to work I didn`t have much choice .......... But now I`m retired with much more spare time on my hands , I can spend a few days ( or more ) getting the bike to pass the sunshine test ( as they used to say ) ......... But then having spent hours on my back , on my knees , squirting and spraying into small crevices , poking away with a cloth covered screwdriver , using Mansion furniture polish on the bodywork ( yes really ... ) , ..... this is all a good way to discover if anything`s loose , worn , or about to drop off , by the way , ............ Then I am reluctant to have gone through all that hard work and effort for nothing , by taking the bike out in the rain and on crap covered roads , and within five minutes ending up back where I started ....... ) .......

Sad but true ........ But then I just ride normal sports / road bikes ................. If I had an "adventure " bike , a Himalayan , Tiger , V-Strom . or whatever , then I definitely would take a perverse pleasure in keeping it as grubby and muddy as possible , just so I could park it next to someone`s blinged-up , squeaky clean GS ..........

Mention of using furniture polish on my bikes has made me feel a little guilty now ......... So to make amends , and restore my reputation ( If I ever had one in the first place ) ......... Here`s a few shots of my two month old , nicely muddy " adventure bike " ( Honda SL125 ) ........ Taken during the Seven Shire Trial in 1975 ........ Various locations are .... Waylands Smithy Long Barrow ; Infirmary Arches Gloucester Cathedral ; Pump House Crofton Pump ; Kings Oak Forest of Dean ; Civil War hero John Hampden`s Monument Chalgrove Field ............. Nothing to do with PS , or even Laverda , but there you are ...... Sorry .................

Costs too much to print and distribute apparently ....... Compares a 120 degree Jota against a Kat and CB1100R ; nice mail from a reader about a visit to Richard Slater ; and £7000 worth of rebuilt Mirage motor gets slotted into nice shiny rolling chassis and gets fired up ........

And that`s it .... end , finish , finito ....... no more sitting down on a Saturday morning with a sausage and bacon roll and a can of cherry coke to read what used to be the best remaining monthly bike mag ........ What a bummer .........
Surely there’s a nice coffee about, or a lovely cask ale if it’s close to lunch. Last I checked the vitamin content in ale was 100 fold that of cherry coke?

Maybe , but I`ll stick with the roll and cherry coke .... The sandwich shop is only two minutes away from where I live , the chip shop a further 20 seconds away ........ PS has gone , so I need something to cheer me up ........

Not so keen on coffee , and more of a cider person rather than ale ..................... Saturday afternoons , and Sundays , I usually head down to my garage in Bristol , then onto my old local pub when I lived down there , where I`ll usually have a pint , maybe pint and a half , definitely no more than two pints of Thatchers Traditional ( riding , see ) ........

Will stop at pubs when I`m out riding ...... still cider though ....... Recent recommended stops have been Royal Oak at Monmouth ; Catherine Wheel at Bibury ; Raddys at Weston super Mare ; Bees Knees at Cirencester ; Old Royal Ship at Luckington ; Kings Arms at Didmarton .......... Only one pint at each mind .... ....... Was looking for The King Of Prussia just outside Abergavenny a couple of weeks ago , but it seems to have disappeared .......

Cider!! You’ve got my attention! My family origin is Somerset, Wells actually. My attraction for wood barrel aged scrumpy is of the highest level. That first experience in 1982, led me to plant apple trees in my back yard, impressed my local home brew supply house to bring in unique cider yeasts, and now I have full keg system in my garage, next to my motorbikes.

My first ever big ride, off road to Darwin through the deserts of central Australia in 1974 I was in the company of a lady and her husband, she on one of these and he on his CB750 sidecar combo, me on my Yamaha 360. The police had refused Ron permission on one two day stretch around flooded Lake Eyre, so he was on the train. Cathy and I went places that were on the limit for both of us, unforgettable trip. Those little SL125 Hondas were bloody brilliant, they continued on back to Melbourne via the west.

They were great little trail bikes ...... I`m jealous of the fact you could just ride off for days into the desert ....... In my part of England it`s mostly muddy lanes ......... Here`s a couple more pics of the " pint sized lionheart " as one journalist once described it .............( In a cleaner state here , must have been early on ) ................... Hangman`s stone at Blewbury Down Berkshire , and Maud Heath`s monument at Kellaways , Wiltshire ............

Bibury in Gloucestershire is very " touristy" , Arlington Row and all that ...... lots of people wandering aimlessly around , even on a weekday ....... So I wasn`t going to stop ....... But then spotted the Catherine Wheel mentioned above , just as I was leaving the village .......

Sat at the bar was a chap whose parents ( and grandparents ) used to run pubs in the Cirencester area ........

He told me a quite amusing story regarding Laverda-flying , aeroplane-crashing , country singer John Denver ....... featured on here a little while ago ....

Denver must have been playing a few dates in the UK ....... this was back in the `eighties ...... and chap at the bar said he was staying at the pub his parents were running , when John Denver walks in , together with his driver , and orders a pint of Guinness , plus something to eat ......

Denver eventually decides to leave , and on his way out places a five pound note on the bar as a tip ... ( 1980`s remember , not to be sneezed at ... ) .....

However , before anyone can pick up the fiver , Denver`s driver walks back into the pub , grabs the fiver , stuffs it in his pocket , and walks out again .........

....... Maybe that`s how the rich stay rich ...........

More likely, his locally hired driver was a crook who didn’t mind ripping off his fellow countrymen.
