Optimum number of bikes ?

It has got to be double figures! I'm at 10, the latest one makes me smile the most but is the slowest and most needy! 1926 BSA, gas powered lights, ideal!

My 1946 BSA is  the oldest - but reckoned to be able to outrun a DBD34 Gold Star  :o :o

did I read somewhere that there is a sprint meeting coming up at east Kirby just up the road from Toddy? are you going on your M21 Phil?
CLEM

Yes - there's quite a few sprint meets at EK Clem - will take the M20 when I've finished making it (sort of) road legal- i guess it's more of an "M22" as it's 728cc! - Regards - Phil

I did think EK was a grass runway, well at least that is the only type of surface that I saw the Lanc taxiing on, so is the sprint on concrete/tarmac?

Yes - the Lanc taxi'is on the grass - but where the grass ends  there is a road then the continuation of the original concrete runway that the sprints are done on. was at EK last night for a "bike night" - Richard Slater and i will meet there next week - so I'm getting overdosed on EK ATM  :D :D - Regards - Phil

Hi Ally et el

Interesting question, I've been up to 6 functional bikes and found things to be unmanageable with limited space and time to ride them all.
Currently I'm own three functional bikes 2x HD's- 1995 1340 EVO and a berserker 2016 Dyna Low Rider S 1800, plus my cherished Harris Laverda. This collection I find a good mix of personalities for what ever the occasion maybe.
There are three perhaps four additional bikes I like to add to the stable, I know what I said earlier but hey you all know how things are and retirement is on the horizon. Silver, rear drummed, humped seat Lav triple plus a Moto Martin CBX plus a road going XR69 and a B40 for the back of a camper van.

My wife is for warned and cash waiting............ Dangerous hey ?

                                                Cheers
                                                      Matt

I'm at 9. Unmanageable - not enough time for satisfactory tinkering and riding, both of which are important to me. I'm in the process of selling the more boring generic Honda stuff as they are just in the way now.

I am also at 9 licenced and insured and ready to ride. Then a 10th, the Garelli 150, which is in pieces.

In my new downsized life and current small garage, 9 are several to many. I think the turbo charged 79 Honda CBX is going to be the first offered for sale, I have only ridden it once, for a short distance, so far this year. Runs great, just no space or time for it now.

I think its a race bike and not road registered, looks great though andwith the correct motor too  ;)

I currently own 4 while 3 are under construction or need serious work, only one is really running. Surprise, Surprise, it is the "hand grenade" 750 from Zane Laverda.

I love all 4 because:
-the "Jota" is a nice classic bike which rides nicely and is the bike I own the longest (since 1992). Something for classic bike meetings or the 200km on a Sunday morning outside of town
-the 1000 SFC is the nice sports-tourer. Plenty of horses, smooth running, luggage space available, very reliable. For the longer tours...
-the 750 S Formula: the modern bike with easy handling, more power than I could make use of. something for riding with my buddies with the more modern bikes. Or to lent it my brother in law when jointly going on a Laverda-Meeting...
-the Motoplast: something I can build me to suit. Something special not everyone has...

Ummm, for the uninitiated (southern hemisphere) what is EK? And what happens in 'sprints'? I can at least guess that a Lanc is a Lancaster bomber!

"EK" is "East Kirkby" - "sprints" are what you probably call drag racing - "Lanc" is short for Lancaster -  this one is based at "EK " airfield a stones throw from my house. They have lots of bike meetings there - see photo from "Buell" do  Can just see the Palmelli in photo!- Regards - Phil

Thanks for the translation, Phil. That Lancaster must be something incredible when they fire it up - 4x Merlins?

the difference between a drag race and a sprint is (usually) the drag race starts with a descending tree of lights culminating in green for go, and in a sprint you break the beam when you are ready to go.

Yes Quentin -  we can hear it fire up from our house - when the Canadian Lancaster came over to "visit" the English Lanc - which is based at RAF Conningsby ( a few miles away from here) they practised along a flight path over the area we exercise our dogs - the noise shook the air. Often when the  Lanc displays at EK it turns right over our house - noise is incredible!  Also when the Canadian lanc was here they overflew the EK "terrestial" Lanc  whilst it was taxiing- so there were 12 Merlins firing together - actually it was 11 with one Griffon (I think) engine as the Canadian one had had to borrow an engine in England as its own one had gone tits up getting here! - Lincolnshire is known as "Bomber County" ! - Regards - Phil

For me, the ideal figure is 3 Italian and a Japanese !

My motto; the 4-stroke must be Italian, the 2-stroke Japanese  :D

I need three more than I currently have...
A nice Corsa  :D
A Harley Electra Glide  :o, to be kept in the USA at my daughters place ( for touring - when in Rome, do as Rome does...)
A Triumphy Daytona 1200, to keep my 1200 Trophy company
I may need to rationalize the fleet a bit, though. Running out of space.
