RGS Frame

very much doubt you will get anywhere near 160kg, not with an endurance based Laverda triple
when we built our Scorch race bikes the Mule weighed in at 177kg, with oil, no fuel. They be slightly lighter now as replaced a few bits with Titanium and made the tanks alloy instead of fiberglass but would not be much lighter, at the best 175kg

No Starter motor, no Starter mechanism, no Charging system, run a small Lithium battery, no Gauges apart from a Lap timer, bikes are totally stripped of anything they do not need
Could drop a couple of more kg's by changing to say Oz Racing Wheels but at $6,000/set and I need 4 sets to cover both bikes, stuff that
Rather spend that money on designing and machining a new clutch for my engines

I believe your weight target would be 180-185kg for an Endurance based race bike
They will always be heavy old lumps.
Paul

frame of my race bike was an very early 1000 180 deg. frame without the diagonal tubes under the tank.
I made those by myself and made a longer headstock and a box around the swinging arm pivots.
Cutted everthing which I did not need.
Al gears were drilled, clutch also and primary and secondary gears. Drilled camshafts, GSXR wheels, aluminium swinging arm, al bigger bolts M8 and M10 Titanium, main axles were steel, Boba carbon tank and fairing as well, no starter and no generator, battery 1 kg
Result was 195 Kg 🤷🏻‍♂️
So I belive what Redax wrote, maybe with a good frame of 12 Kg you may come down to 180 kg.

My Motodd is about as light as I could get it for road use. All body work, mud guards, chain guard and mounting brackets are made from carbon fiber. When I swapped out the original Ignition/charging system with a Kawa alternator with Red's Sasche ignition that saved a couple of Kgs. Also drilled the clutch basket and cams wheel and fitted Ross Pistons which save about maybe 1/2 kg. Should have had Red lighten the crank when he rebuilt it with Carrillo rods so a couple of kg saving there but never mind. GSXR wheels, lighter discs. Rewired using thin walled wires and as basic as you get wiring harness. Battery werightrs 0,78kg, Apart from the couple of kgs off the crank there isn't much more I could do to lighten it. Maybe a few grams here and there using titanium bolts, drill out axels etc but not worth the effort for a road bike. Handlers like a dream and goes like fuck.
Track day next Sunday for it's next outing.

180 kg on a LAVERDA triple - race ready - we reached already years ago: standard frame, 1000 SFC wheels, carbon tank, cut down crankshaft, no generator, no starter, LiFePo battery, with oil and 10l of gasoline. See my pic enclosed. Ciao, Gert

Is it THAT much, Lothar? I haven't weighed my std spoke wheels with front disc adapters and 320mm 996 Ducati rotors, or the Triumph Legend rear wheel with reduced dia disc. 10kg is massive.

Her is my Laverda racer:
Weight: 200 kg, with starter, and standard batteri, I think
I Can find 20 kg, if I try 🧐🧐👍👍

Might be a bit exaggerated, but pretty close Quentin.

Swapping out the wire wheels for the Gixxer items on my 3C brought about a 7.something kg advantage. Granted, the wire wheels were loaded a bit, solid 1-piece cast iron 300mm discs up front, SFC 1000 billet rear hub with a solid cast iron 260mm disc and were laced to 2.50" and 3.50" flange-less Akront rims. The reduction in unsprung weight greatly enhanced suspension action and no more inner tubes meant gyroscopic effects were also noticably reduced, which made steering so much nicer. Not to mention superior braking power with stainless 310mm discs and proper pads... a win/win on every level!

If you count all the gains with the following modifications, yes, it's pretty close to the 10 Kg:

-Oscam-Wheels require tubes I think. This alone is around 500g/wheel
-the rims itself are much lighter (about 2-3 Kg each - let's assume 5 Kg in total)
-if you use modern discs (took some from a Kawa I think, which lined up pretty well), you safe another Kg on the front roughly
-the rear is a 24cm, much thiner and much lighter disc, too, safes another 300 - 400g
-the calipers are lighter (front 4-pot, rear GSX-R), even though the front ones are mounted with adapters

It's maybe not 10 Kg, but for sure about 7-8Kg you safe, allthough the wider tires might add nother 100 g or so. It was the single best change I did on both the 1000 SFC and the Jota. Rode an original spoke wheel 1000 SFC Classic years later, that had even a modified/improved front fork and Konis on the rear with fresh Conti tires. It wasn't as agile as mine (cornering, handling overall), not even close.

Hi. Since I've just recently weighed a load of components, wheels various, tyres, hubs, discs, calipers Brembo, I thought you might find this useful.

I got my bike weight for track use down to 183kg with probably empty steel tank, lithium polymer toy battery, no starter, no alt and race tyres.

I used 2sets of scales and the 5-200kg set get a bit sketchy at lower readings but the kitchen scales are bang on every time.
Gsxr 18" with twin oem discs, radial tyre, brgs 11.6kg
2.75 x 18 gsxr with brgs only 4.66
2.5 x 18 brgs only 4.23
Front sv650 17" wider, brgs only 4.47kg

Rear gsxr1100 no bearings no tyre 6.4kg
Rear Laverda Flam with drive hub,( no carrier) & brgs 5.6kg
Rear suzuki 3 spoke sv? With brgs only. 5.4kg

Rear sv 3 spoke with race tyre, disc and cush rubbers 11.7kg
As above with cush hub and sprocket 13.5kg

Rear gsxr with tyre and brgs, no hub or disc 11.7kg
Brembo po8 with pads and alloy adaptors to fit larger disc . 1.05kg

Brembo gold 4 pots with adaptors and pads 1.293kg

I also weighed oem suzuki discs 310mm for early gsxr, vs later gsxr 88 on vs aftermarket wavy rotors snd they're all pretty much the same at just under 1.5kg although the oem style are worn and thinner all over.

A new Avon 18" am22 road tyre Cross Ply weighs 4.74kg.
A rear worn out pirell diabolo supercorsa pro in 160-17 weighs 4.2kg.

I weighed a couple of new 18" track tyres but misplaced the photos.
LAVERDA triple 81 wheels with everything to drive, Inc discs, sprocket, tyres.
Front 14.8kg vs gsxr at 11.6kg
Rear 19.0 kg with hub vs 14.6 gsxr/alloy 520
630 steel sprocket on hub 2.5kg/ alloy 520 sprocket gsxr hub1.86kg

In summary, the wheels themselves aren't that much different in weight but the attachments make quite a difference.

Nice work, Peder. What have you done to the clutch sprocket? Surely you didn't make that from scratch??

I drilled everything.

I'm late to this thread, but just for reference I weighed my road-going Spondon Jota using the same method and similar kit as Robjota. I'm probably going to become unpopular . . 171kg as pictured
