SF3 on eBay

Very nice example. if it's genuine, it would be asn excellent buy. If it's only local pickup, and cash on delivery, how could you be scammed, other than losing the $500 deposit? I guess getting someone to view it wold be the best path to take. It's not cheap until we see what the final winning bid is.

I wonder how thriving the market in California is for obscure pieces of 1970s Italian hardware with the gear change on the wrong side?  Will be interesting to see ... ;)

no way would I be parting with 500$ deposit, (to me the only sign of a scam) I would have it collected within 24 hours and have cash to settle at that point.

I can't understand why when doing such a refurbish with lovely paint, they don't get a picture of a genuine one to at least copy the pinstripes. All the SF3s imported to Australia had crossover gearchanges. No mention of refurbished engine (which it shouldn't need at that mileage but for all the years sitting around), nicely polished and chromed up though.

I don't think so. From memory (in Oz at least), red and silver were your options). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. i was also puzzled by the RH gear change - as mentioned by Tippie, all SF3s imported into Oz had LH crossover, so why on earth would a US model not have it?? I'd go as far as to say the factory made that change primarily for the US market.

And what position is that with the fuel taps??!! On, off, res and ....??
 
Listing states that bike was imported out of UK. Fuel taps may have been 'restored'. Looks like it was heavy on the patina at some stage. Check the steering lock.
I'm looking for some original pics of SF3's now. Can't believe gallery here has none when I search 'SF3' Haven't found any so far with pin stripes. I seem to remember seeing a red one or two back in the day with striping.
 
SF3 to Australia all had pinstripes, as did 3CL which was the same year triple. This one was a british export to US. Yeah, front axle also has good patina.

Only seen silver and red at the time, all with hand-drawn pinstripes (including air bubbles) in the black paint. All had the old round CEV tail light and old gold ?Laverda 750? tank badges.

As far as I know only the SF3 that had no pinstripes was the prototype.

Interesting. Now I have to ask if anyone has a pic of a silver SF3 tank. The bike in the listing seems to have the pinstripes not follow the tank shape too well, as mentioned earlier. How far off? If the clocks weren't so faded, I'd be looking to buy this one. It's only a day's drive from here.
 
Don't think any came with a round tail light - would look very odd with that and the ducktail.

SF3 tank in silver ... and i think the filler cap fits the opposite way to previous models. You'd be hard pressed to find any 1970's Laverda without faded clocks. I'd be more concerned about the chrome surrounds on those clocks - really ugly, if nothing else.
