Murphus!  It's all there in the blurb ..

1.  The bike was re-painted a year ago. ("Professionally", it is claimed.  Pity, in that case, that the painter couldn't be arsed to get the pin striping right.  And as for the black bits - eeek!, Weren't no professional worth is salt who did that ...)

2.  It's a UK-origin bike, imported privately into the US as recently as November 2017.  So it never has been, 'wrong-side' shift ...

Just 9 hours now to go to auction end.  The tension mounts ...  :D
 
The bike looks basically great, non genuine colour or not. Buying any bike/Laverda without a thorough checkout is a gamble though. You just never know.

I asked seller if the battery tray was clean. Replied yes. That would speak to frame repaint. Appears to be 'fixed up to flip'...There's that word again...
Seller states that it was a color change. Also says that there are no issues to his knowledge. Where have I heard that before?
What's it worth? Has already surpassed my guesstimate.
 
Reserve not met. 31m to go. Looks like it stays put. Unless the sniper bids come in with 5s to go! Gotta be worth more than US$8k. My mate's very shabby SF1 with a rebuilt motor sold for AU$15k here - absolutely no comparison with this bike. If I wanted a good SF this would be my starting point. Really helps to have someone who can inspect it though. Back in the paper Trading Post or Saturday Age classifieds, we wouldn't touch a bike that hadn't been started, inspected in the flesh and preferably ridden.
 
There you have it..No sale. I think it would need to be taken back to UK or Australia to bring in much more than 7 and change. There are still barn (garage) finds after all these years that haven't been re assembled by who knows who. For not much more money. In the US anyway.
 
Unfortunately I think you're right, Ric.  I didn't say anything before, but there's enuf on that bike to persuade me it ain't as innocent as you might be led to believe.

"Fixed to flip", you say.  Wouldn't disagree with you there.  Shame.
 
Well maybe. I called seller. Was originally red. He had it painted after a mishap when handling the tank.
A BMW (car) colour. I happen to recognize it as "Laguna Seca Blue' as seen on E46 M3's a decade or so back. Don't ask me how I know...
An offer above  the 'end bid price' (not me) was declined.

7k is about what they go for in Italy and would cheaper to import in the UK then from the U.S.
In these uncertain times, who knows what it is worth.
It's not like you can go to the Honda dealer when it's not as described...

No, not mine.  I had a SF2 - couldn't find a SF3 at the time.  But I'm not sure the SF3 isn't the better looking model, especially in silver.  Very clean, very purposeful, really shows off the engine.  And as PB2 says: without the pin stripes.  Not needed.

P.s  Note the triple trees are painted black - unlike the blue bike that started this thread.
 
the factory black lines are definitely "too much" (I owned one for a number of years and this is my finding)  but plain and bare doesn't quite do it for me either, it looks to me, like the painter "couldn't be bothered", it needs a subtle addition, I just don't quite know what, an arty type would be useful here. 1200TS's that are repainted without the red lines have the same affect on me, except I do like the factory applied red lines.

How about a nice air brushed scene like the old panel vans used to have.  My mate had a falcon panel van , shagpile carpet all round inside , with a dusky Tahitian woman air brushed on the outside each side . Just like those famous French velvet paintings.
