We had a series of station wagons (estate car for the poms). Kids would get relegated to the very back if there were adult passengers in the back seat. Both my parents used to smoke up until I was about 14, so we'd often be driving along in a haze of smoke. They both gave up smoking in their mid 40's when people started getting the message that 2nd hand smoke was bad for kids. They made a joint decision to quit together. One day they were smokers, the next day they weren't. Good on 'em. They've been pushing up daisies for quite a few years now.
