The Not The Mt Gambier run.

It is midnight, 240km from the QLD border in the NT.
Following an oil change on the 1200, I kicked back to some vino and tequila. No light. Bugs from everywhere attracted to the phone.

The waterbug did survive. swam about until fished out and flew off when able. there are lots more flying in as I type.

Day 1. Landed in Brisbane Sunday night. Picked up the 1200 stored in a workshop in Eagle Farm Industrial precinct. A fun easter ride turned on its head Friday. Darwin work instead.

The loose plan. head west, pick up motels. Be in Darwin Thursday morning.

Tuesday night, still about 1200K's from destination but oil changed with 2300k's completed. Bike's running well and the NT open road speed limit is 130KPH. JOY!

However QLD are now $450 richer but I got off lightly.

Day 1 ended at Winton at 16:10 Monday. 1500km, with 600 through the night dodging roos at about 80.
.An hour or so kip on a park bench at 4AM and carry on.

An owl didnt make it. RIP.

Monday was a late 7am start. Good pace early came acroppa in the twisties near Mt Isa. 129/100, $450... but 1 more K over, add +$200 and new fines from 1 July would make that one, plus $1000.

So even the ticket left me laughing.

Will sign off with a pic of tonight's accomodation. This time a full lenght park bench. Lux.

and an addendum. Woken up by this bloke. Pro tip. Do your wheel nuts up. A bit hard to sleep hearing a boat trailer dragging sparks along the road. We couldnt find the wheel but hey, He's got a spare but needs wheel nuts. At 1:30am 200km from nowhere

Ahh I love an adventure. Somewhere vague to head towards, rough schedule, follow your instincts, she’ll be right 👍

P.S. there’s a couple of spare wheel nuts on the other wheel 😁
 
Blimey Dave, you're making me feel old. I used to do that sort of thing in my younger days, but now I don't think my old bones would cope with the long distances on the bike or the park bench mattress.

As Groucho would say, you're only as young as the nurse you feel. You're right though, swinging a leg over the load makes strange hip noises.
 
Isn't that where they calculate fines by applying a percentage of your annual income, some bloke was fined $300k for a speeding offence as he earned massive bucks

Yes... Let's not talk about that...

The conversation went something like this. "Well, can I sort the money out here? Orificer: "I do not have the facility to take your money."
and the best bit. "Thanks for not putting me in jail".
"Your offence is riding in a manner dangerous to yourself. If there was another person on the road at the same time, it would be riding in a manner dangerous to others. Yes, I would put you in jail."

Yeah, I'm not going back there.

Took me 4 days last time right oh

Bugger it will be in winter with shorter days but hmm 🤔
