I had a GS1000S with a Yoshi kit when I bought the Laverda 1200 (1990). It was very stable, very comfortable and very fast but boring as. Never came out of the shed after I bought the Laverda so I sold it.

14+ hours a day on a trail bike with std bars? No thanks! With a sleeping bag on the tank I could lie on it and the clipons were fitted on top of the upper triple clamp. Dropping the forks through also made it steer more like a road bike! I run clipons above the triple clamps on my SF based bikes. Ergonomically perfect and very similar idea to what El Diablo is saying.

I quite liked mine, although that was years ago, long before I could afford a Laverda.
I wonder what I’d think of it now? I remember it had a super comfy seat and a horrible buzz through the footpegs 🤔

Last time I did the Nullabor on a bike, I wanted to crank the speed up, but there were cops patrolling in aircraft. They'd time vehicles over measured distances and calculate their speed. You can't be scanning the sky all the time to see if they're within sight, so the only safe option is to travel at the 110kph limit.

WTF does it matter if anyone goes above 110kph on a road that's dead straight from one horizon to the other in the middle of nowhere with hardly any traffic? Bloody stupid waste of police resources if you ask me.
 
Had a mate who did the Nullabor on his Goldwing, he was approaching the Nullabor Roadhouse when he heard a tremendous roar and the undercarriage of a light plane nearly took his head off. He pulled in feeling slightly shaken when the said plane landed on the road and taxied up and a cop jumped out and came up to him, 'Sorry mate, didn't see you' the cop said.
True story.
 
Got rolled for 140 on the Nulla on Lee's SF fitted with C bits - with him on the back. Cop radarred me going out of Eucla - his V8 Falcon was creaking with the heat after he'd finally caught up and pulled me over about 20ks down the road. I'd been at a steady 160, thinking west of Eucla we might be bloody safe. No, not safe ANYWHERE! Effing ridiculous. We we weren't far from the longest straight piece of road on the planet - all 195km of it. There's a slight bend, then another 150ks before the next bend. Not a good place to run a $350 Pirelli Corsa Rossa!!

Feel your pain. No where to run no where to hide. :D

And Cam, the 100 or 110 in the outback is dangerous. Falling asleep. 130//140 keeps you alert, not drowsy. The rider must pay attention.
 
That's the speed everybody including my 70-year-old Mum in her Datsun Sunny did in the bush between towns usually with nothing around for usually 50ks or more before the safety crackdown happened. Now it's Micro sleeps from boredom or inattention at your surrounding from staring at your speedo that is a huge risk.

WA cops are stationed at Eucla 365 days a year, and are always on road patrol. Had a big night partying with a couple of them at the Border Village in SA in the 70's. Last time I drove over got pulled over on the flat just before the rise into Eucla heading east. Sitting on 116kmh on cruise control. Quick rego and licence check, please keep it a bit slower, now off you go.

Could never have done anything remotely like it without all weight off the wrists and on the tankbag.
 
My Birthday ride saga continues. Rear tyre has not arrived before my NT exit deadline to Perth, so QANTAS gets a fare.

Bright side. Might leave it up here until the July races.

If you need a bike let me know. We can't have you walking to Dumbleyung.
Don't get too excited though, it would be a GSX1400 or a ZX10R. I don't have a spare Laverda 😁
