The Not The Mt Gambier run.

All good gents, an easy 600k day. This part of the ride is tourism. Wanted to check out Timber Creek after conversations with a +20 year NT coppa at dinner Wed night. Otherwise would have put in another 400 or so.

Friday night at Timber Creek Pub is a dangerous workplace. The employees, largely OS remote working visa holders have to try and comply with statutory regulation. The looks on those girls faces. Hey, Im not a lefty but any girl trying to comply with our remote working visa conditions here, is a fucking slave.

The place is a brutal powderkeg. Later tonight, NT Police will complete mopping up operations.

From my donga, the screaming has subsided. Gonna head back for a beer :D

Timber creek aaa good to hear you have a good time and escaped relatively unscathed.. tell me do they still have cages on the bowsers at Hall Creek then.. safe travels my friend you are nearly home son only another 2 and a half thousand clicks to go… for you that would be like 2 days no..

Finally got real super at Sandfire. Roebuck was bullshitting as well. 4th gear btween 3500 and 4000 is 80 where the motor ran best on the non aromatic stuff. They didnt open til 7 so oil change done and dusted. On the road again.

It's been a long time since I travelled that road. I think it was about 1978 and I was travelling on a Kawasaki Z1. I don't remember anything about Halls Creek, but I'll never forget Turkey Creek a couple of hours north of Halls.

The temperature was about 40C and I was feeling overheated and dehydrated. As I pulled in to the "roadhouse" there were a couple of aboriginal kids playing in the dust. I filled the bike up with fuel, looked at the water tap near the fuel bowser with a view to refilling my water container, but it had a sign saying it wasn't suitable for drinking. I then went to pay and get a desperately needed cold drink. The "roadhouse" door was locked and there was security mesh on all the windows. There was just a little open window through which to conduct your business. I asked what drinks they had available, the woman behind the window said "beer, lemon squash or filtered water - all the same price" (this was before the days of bottled water, so it came in a glass). I opted for lemon squash. She disappeared for a few seconds, then came back with an open can of soft drink and poured about 250ml of it into a not very clean looking glass. I guzzled it down and asked for another. She said "one drink per customer". She was lucky I didn't dive through the window and throttle her.
