This weeks joke

$750.00 payment to all welfare recipients.. ???
Why would you give a stimulus payment to people who already have a fixed government paid income , that will be paid regardless of what happens , that they already have adapted to living on.
Guess the local meth dealer and Aldi will benefit

It dosent make sense to me,  there will be a percentage spent on drugs and alcohol that is for sure. Maybe the ice dealers will be able to then spend their added profits in the local area and so create the stimulus?
Its the knock on affect that Sooty wants. ???

Think the idea is for the money to be spent and passed on through purchases from small businesses that are struggling due to the virus.
By the way, I'm a pensioner, not on welfare, I earned my pension. Maybe you'll think differently when your turn comes.

My comment was not aimed at pensioners Legs,I have no doubt most pensioners will be able to spend appropriately.
I was talking about the people who are on a sickness pension, most notably a mental illness pension and for whom self medicate is part of their weekly routine.
These people given any extra cash will simply self medicate more, chosen drug ice.
Many are on whats called a financial management order which restricts there income so that rent, phone ect are all paid and then an allowance is drip fed to them so that they can not spend it all on drugs which just worsens their
situation.
Having a FMO in place is the only thing that makes their condition manageable.
And giving a wad of cash is not helpful.

apologies for the confusion.

cheers
Tom

This is absolutely true. I went into my local butcher shop today and they had a box with half a dozen bog rolls on the counter, with a sign saying $50 per roll. It was obviously meant as a joke. The guys that run the shop are pretty friendly and like to have a laugh with the customers. Most of the customers (including myself) thought it was funny, but it backfired when some woman took it seriously and started berating the guys for profiteering. She even threatened to call the police! It took a while to convince her it was a joke. Silly old bat.

Also a self funded retiree and I work 10-12 hours a week. When I'm actually old enough for the pension, in 2 years, I'll earn more than I'm earning now.
Survive by being debt free and my misses has gardens we eat from.
750 bucks wouldn't go astray, it'll put new tyres and chain on the Motodd.
I need to get on welfare somehow!!!

Our son is on a disability pension and has been since he was old enough to get one. After rent (he is in a Housing Commission unit in Manly, Sydney) he has about $700 per fortnight for food, utilities, clothing, medications etc. This means that the Australian taxpayer sponsors/supports him in order to live.  He also has a National Disability Insurance Scheme funding package valued at $120,000 per year to pay for carers and other programs designed to help him meet his goals.  Sam would like to work full time, get married and have children - but with his autism, OCD, Schitzophrenia and depression, this is unlikely to occur.  He works a half a day a fortnight at a disability workplace and looks forward to it when he goes.

Jo and I see a lot of folk that live in Sam?s block of units that should be on Disability pensions, but have missed out - a lot due to disintegrating family support as families find it hard to cope with their behaviours, which Jo and I know all too well. Some of it is due to the introduction of the NDIS over previously state-funded assistance, whereby their access to help and services was cut and they just don?t have the advocacy available to get them what they need.

I don?t know of too many ice addicts out there that enjoy their lot, and are living the dream.  Many were born into it through their parents/ grandparents addictions or as a result of horrendous childhoods.  Some are stronger than others and able to rise above that which they experienced as children.  Call me a bleeding heart commie-socialist if you must, but you might be wrong there...

Yogi

From my experience, I know one couple, she was wheelchair bound with chronic back pain, her husband was on a carers pension, she on invalid pension. Both had been in this position for years.

On my last visi for a wedding, the wheel chair was not to be seen and she was walking around fine.

At the wedding she was wheeled into the church by her carer ... at the reception, behind closed doors, she had a great night on the dance floor. And was pretty good at the Limbo.

Their $1500 will be appreciated.

Understand your position Yogi, it?s just that there are some that rorte the system.

There are people who rort the system for sure; knew a couple and their two daughters all on a disability pension, colour tv in every room and more disposable income than when I was working for Raytheon.

An attractive blond from Cork, arrived at a casino in the US. She seemed a little intoxicated and bet $20,000 on a single roll of the dice.

She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm completely nude."

With that, she stripped from the neck down, rolled the dice and with an Irish brogue yelled, "Come on, baby, Mama needs new clothes!"

As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed. "YES! YES! I WON, I WON!"

She hugged each of the dealers and then picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed.

The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded.

Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?"

The other answered,

"I don't know, I thought you were watching."

MORAL OF THE STORY

Not all Irish are drunks,

Not all blondes are dumb,

But all men, are men.

A Honda mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a GoldWing when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop.

The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?"

The cardiologist, a bit surprised walked over to where the mechanic was working on the 'bike. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked,

"So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired or replaced anything damaged, and then put everything back in, and when I finished, it worked just like new.

So how is it that I make $24,000 a year and you make $1.7M when you and I are doing basically the same work?"

The cardiologist paused, leaned over, and then whispered to the mechanic....

Try Doing it with the 'Engine' running....
