Ha haa! Love the punchline. It actually immediately brought back memories of a (bicycle) road race I was doing. It was an age-based Club Championship on a course that went up and over a mountain and beyond, then returned over the same mountain. For Victorians who know the area, it went from Yarra Junction through Powelltown and up and over the mountain towards Noojee and back.
I'd managed to get away from a bunch of chasers on the return climb with a really strong rider. The guy in front hammered the descent and we both knew the road and were cranking the tight bends at 60-80kph ... until ... we caught two guys on hogs. One of them picked it up enough to at least stay out of the way but the other slug was doing exactly what the joke above describes ... holding us up in the twisties and accelerating away between them. It was definitely costing us time and pissing us off because we didn't want the chasers to get back on. VERY frustrating! But in hindsight, hilarious!
Once it flattened out I couldn't stay with my co-escapee but I held on for a 3rd place. (A top-tier Australian Masters rider had already got away earlier so we were racing for 2nd and 3rd.)
