If in the future anyone finds themselves in the same predicament the Van company we used for the ONE way hire was called -

RENT & DROP
Secondly where most people carry their licence and passport, you may also be asked to provide proof of where you live.
Therefore carry a current household bill to prove.

Damn, that misfire is going to really dull any chance of staying out there, Andy. Thought with you in trying to source the fault.

Going one down on the rear sprocket (so taller) ... that means you were revving out before the chicane previously? And more drive out of slower corners - is that a benefit of a taller gear? Less spin and slide under power?
Initially was thinking of going a tooth bigger but, although the Avon tyres are pretty good, in that heat the bike was already sliding so the risk was a high side out of one of the many slow corners. I found the smaller sprocket suited me as I could hold the bike in either second, third, fourth around 8k-8.5k through some of the twisty bits and reduce the amount of gear changes. I didn’t use first apart from starting and stopping and fifth on the first part of the Mistral straight where I was still able to hit 8k+ in top before my braking point.
However, this possibly wasn’t the optimum gearing because we just didn’t get enough time on the bike in practice, because of the ignition gremlins, to test other ratios. Even so, as we were still trying to get the hang of a circuit in either blinding conditions or the dark in the race, I’m not sure it would really have made very much difference what gearing we ran with; and especially towards the end of the four hours when the headlight bracket broke and the lights were partially obscured by the fairing.

Makes sense, Andy. Racing in those conditions on an unfamiliar track? What fun!

On the track on the SF I always found the gap between 2nd and 3rd very frustrating. If you powered out of a slow corner in 2nd you'd be reaching for 3rd in no time. I often ended up using 3rd and sacrificing that little bit of drive. In the end I think it increased my corner speed so probably actually a better option. This for track days where I didn't bother setting up gearing as i'd ride the bike to the track. No doubt the reason for a close ratio option.

Anyone know if the 180s and 120s use the same gear ratios as the twins?

I think the ratios are in the Green book. Early twins and of course SFCs had different gearboxes.

Rob found this photo on Paul Ricard website with Mr B leading the way behind the safety car. I think it clearly demonstrates the challenge we faced in the first hour or so of the race.
I accepted some advice from a couple of other riders and put a couple of strips of black electrical tape across the top of both my tinted and clear visors. It definitely helped for me but Andy B said it hadn't really worked for him. I did the first stint with a tinted visor then swapped to my clear one for the second and third stints. The sun had all but dropped down behind the hill by the time I went out the second time just before 9.30pm.

Hi Paul,
The next round is scheduled for 6/7th August at Navarra in Northern Spain.
The FBR team who were in the same garage as us at Paul Ricard reckon it might no go ahead , because they had heard along the 'grapevine' that the circuit was being re-surfaced that weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We await confirmation.
Of course I'm still with out the bike at this point in time, hopefully will have it back end of next week?
Also need another rider, have spoken to someone but they can not make the remaining rounds scheduled .
To be honest its more likely that we will aim to start again next year, with a commitment to do the majority of rounds
The team learnt a lot from this one event.

Hi all,
EEC organisers eventually announced some race dates for 2023.

Paul Ricard 5/7th May South of France
Brands Hatch 29/30th July (TBC) I believe full GP circuit .
Pau Arnos 8/10 Sept South West corner of France.

Mallory Park 24th March Test Day

To be honest very surprised about the inclusion of Brands, but very much looking forward to it, if it goes ahead!

Plan to participate in all three rounds, plus I have gathered they may be another event to be scheduled in.

Some changes to the team and bike have taken place since last years race at Paul Ricard.
I have a new riding partner a chap by the name of Tony Jimenez.

I have reduced the wheelbase even more, it was already less than standard from moving the head stock through 4 degrees .
I altered a standard swingarm ( big thanks to Nick Alcock who supplied one) to enable a 104 520 link chain to be used now. Wheelbase now comes in approx 1445mm. Due to the rules / regulations I have had to make and fit secondary covers for the primary/ alternator and right hand clutch cover. Turned up a titanium front wheel spindle , well saves a bit of weight! Also wired up a pit lane speed limiter.

Fantastic news Andy.

We will be going to Paul Ricard for a parade and to watch / support / wave at Team Laverda TT. We'll also be at the BHR test day. I'll wear orange...

The Brands Round is basically one of the No Limits Race days - if you check out their website you can see it is the full GP circuit and is a 3 Hour event. https://www.nolimitsracing.co.uk/2023-calendar. It also clashes with the CRMC event at Donington.

Hi Gareth, Nick Alcock is planning to be at Paul Ricard also. Shame about the date clash of Donington because Classic Bike track day people are holding a track day on the Friday, and I was planning on giving my Binnion framed Monty a run out. By any chance are you planning on doing any of the other Classic Bike track days? https://www.classicbiketrackdays.com/events/

Hi Andy,

I'm going to miss the Welsh Festival due to holidays but will do the Cadwell weekend at the end of September.

We're doing the Classic Ireland Festival and the odd race with BHR too.

Just over 5 weeks and the team will be shipping off down to the South of France for the SRC's 4 hour Endurance race.
The team know consists of Tony Jimenez = rider, Andy P= pit wall, Paul Greasy = Spanner man, Chris = general helper, and my self rider.
After Paul Ricard 5/7th May we go to Brands Hatch 29/30 July full GP circuit, then to Pau Arnos circuit in France 8/10th Sept.
See attach entry list for Paul Ricard. Race number = 30
