Points means the bike gets ridden. So wears tyres.
Paul
Thank you everyone for the info and advice, much appreciated. My SF is running points and I will probably stick with them, as I am familiar with their set-up, having been riding and maintaining my bikes since I got my licence in 1974.
i don’t trust electronic ign 100%, i had a Boyer system die on me, luckily I kept the old points set-up in my tool kit, and that got me home and remained on the bike. That was back in about 1986, maybe aftermarket electronic ignitions have improved and are more reliable now?
i have read about a ‘Pazon’ brand kit meant for British twins that can be fitted with some work?
my SF was running rough when I got it last month, but the timing was 10 deg too advanced on one cyl, 19 deg the other!
it’s spot on now though, and with the carb slides synchronised it’s running like a Swiss watch.
compression tested down a bit on R/H cyl (175psi L, 115 psi R), i suspect worn rings as a result of open bell mouths and no air filtration since new?
id like to fit some K&N type air filters but there’s not much room, unless I make some stubby bell mouths with the matching thread for the carbs?
Thanks everyone,
marty.
