Water proof luggage

Ha Dave they look pretty close to the muffler, used to read about bags catching fire. They must be clear but the pic doesn't show it. Love the idea of the alloy plate, I am always doing similar, nothing stays standard with me very long.
My trusty Hein Gerike bags which I still use have a hole in the bottom on the left hand side following my ride down to Breganze for the "50th" birthday in 97 on my SFC with the 2/1.

As for bin bags, use heavy duty garden type bags.

SFC 2 into 1 was good at melting a hole in LH panniers. My 20 liter jerry-can panniers needed a coke can patch half way across the Nullarbor, I was glad I saw it in time. It must have been because we were two-up, using more throttle at 160kmh+ cruising, it hadn't been a problem on any of the previous solo trips. Plenty of bikes have burnt out with throw-overs coming in contact with high mounted mufflers.

Mounted up the new bags, mounting straps very good, full width coverage, plus solid security straps. No need for extra ocky straps. Narrow too, so easier to lane split. Even has a spare strap to "lazily" fall across the number plate. Oops!
