What did you do to or for or with your Laverda today?

Now that I have the 3C fully sorted, time to work on the 3CL, brake system rebuilt, changed out slightly bent front wheel, tonight I'll mount brakes and bleed, put battery in and go for a ride

Changed the oil, raised the needles another notch :o that was the last available, took bike for a squirt (turned into a four hour session) constant throttle stutter has almost gone, just the smallest amount of fluffy about 2500-3000rpm (that?s being very critical)

But great from 80 to about 130klm, in top gear. Can?t be sure of speeds, as the second magnet for speedo went AWOL about 2 Klms from home  :(

Looking forward to my new seat Steph, my arse feels like I just spent the night with Elton John, bar the cuddle afterwards.

Bump halfway around a fast right-hander has forced me to soften the front forks..... a bit of fun for a moment.

On the matter of forks, after a discussion about them elsewhere last week, had a good look at them at highway speeds, and they do nothing but go up and down...... no flex seen, at all.

So after a little more fettleling, very pleased.

If they were flexing while you were looking at them ...... I doubt you would be telling the same story. I think you would be mentioning Arnold Schwarzenegger rather than Elton John.

Oi, what?s he doing there? I smell a rat ....... pre-purchase visit perhaps?

Got the lusty new 120 triple cooling off in the parking lot of a nice Austrian hotel as we speak...  Gradually ticking itself cool after a spirited run through the m?lviertel.  What could be better?

:)

Things came together and gave me spare time so into the shed to try and sort out adaptors to fit 4 pot calipers to my 76 Ceriani forks.

2 hours later after much fit and refit and visits to the grinder I decided that I wasn't 100% confident that 8mm thickness of aluminium was going to keep me safe when I slam brakes on. I figured fabrication in stainless would probably be safer but I really just want to ride the thing rather than spend my life in the shed. So there are now 2 brand new 4 pot goldline Brembo calipers listed in the for sale section, the forks have been returned to their rightful positions and 2 new single bleed F08 calipers will be fitted.

The twin bleed calipers will be put in the safe along with the all metal front master cylinder.

Davo,

The braking forces are not that difficult to figure out. If you send me a drawing of the adaptor I could do a bit of stress analysis arithmetic on it. 8mm thick aluminium might be OK

I wouldn't use stainless for that application. It's harder to work with than mild steel but not as strong. If it were me I'd just use ordinary low carbon steel. You can get it chromed, powder coated or painted, depending on the look you're after. How about brass plating? It looks like very much like gold plate, so will keep the punters guessing.  :D

I fitted a pair of 4 pots but with 65mm spacing to my Marzos. I made a template out of perspex then sent it off to my CNC mate where he measured and programmed it.
I gave him license to remove ally where he saw fit and they came back beautiful but the thinnest section through mounting holes  ended up being 6mm.
Where I had recessed the bolt heads he removed the ally around it partially. I quizzed him about it and he reckons there was enough material there for the purpose.
He's a German precision engineer and pretty clever so I have confidence in his calculations.
So far so good!!

I tried making a set of templates out of customwood but its not as easy as I thought it would be. Pete Smith of Epicycle fame made mine, he had a program that could apply all the parameters and CnCed some. It only took 8 or 9 months. He had some  fantastic excuses

Thanks for the advice above. The problem with the Ceriani forks compared to Marzos is they have a different offset on the "ears" the calipers mount to as I discovered when I tried to use the std Marzo adaptors available from the usual suspects. Red used to make adaptors for the 40mm mount 4 pots for Ceriani forks and std 280mm rotors but told me some time back he no longer makes them for safety reasons.

And that is before sorting out the shim thickness required for the speedo side and longer speedo cable.

I don't ride the thing hard enough to really need better brakes than I had when I first bought it and rode it like a lunatic so standard brakes will be fine. I just had the Brembo 4 pots sitting there from another project which has gone into the ether so thought to give it a go.
