Wolfgangs location

LOOKING BACK !

Back in 72, there was a Garage on HWY 6 B.C. Main Street through Nakusp advertising Breganzie Laverda Motorcycles with a 69 750S parked out front (1st time I ever saw a Breganzie).

Thinking now, the Business Permit may not have belonged to the Hearters at the time.

I returned to Sudbury Ontario in 73 with that bike on my mind.

Bought my 70 750 SF off a local Mechanic in 73, who put 1600Km on her for $1,600 and it was still in the Dealers Name "SLIMS Motorcycles Sales" for 1/2 the price of the Dealers asking price of of $3,100. A 70 750 Breganzie 750SF nor a Ducati 750S did not sell well compared to the Newer Suicidal Jap Bikes for 1/2 the price at that time.

What a Bargain ;o)

A lot of changes in 50 years, considering, I bought parts from Wolfgang, through the years, to save my 70 Breganzie 750SF.

Now you understand why I am confused where Wolfgang comes from.

Paul's Story is some what different but does not foul my Story of the Naksup B.C. Laverda Breganzie Dealer Ship. After all Paul is much younger then me - That HWY 6 Nakusp bypass wasn't there when I was there in 72 - Hwy 23 went North and HWY 6 did a turn-around and followed the Lake South.

Nakusp B.C. is a beautiful community in the West Kootneys of the Canadian Rockies.

Bloody expensive riding, Ron - $1 per km!

So you say; but BLOODY well worth it after riding a Breganzie for 45 years - I had already had experience riding 69 Bonnie's and 70 Norton Commandos by then ;o)

What's a proven 7800+ rpm, 120+ mph 70 Breganzie Laverda 750 SF Twin, down any straight, worth today. She can make your 3 Balls Rattle ?

What's the scariest and most rewarding is that you had better learn to ride Cafe or she would Dump you. Breganzies were never an easy bike to ride. Breganzies demand that the rider learn Cafe Balancing and use that skill in micro-seconds to prevent you from crashing Vs Winning a Race.

Been there with a Breganzie - Yet makes me wonder if I had ever been to Nakusp B.C. Of course I've have or I would be writing this ;o)

Hey Stu...re Associated Crank in Winnipeg. Yes it is still around, it is about 1 km from my previous house, about 5 kms from where I live now. Now run by the son of the original owner out of a small shop behind his house. Still known for crankshaft machining.

With vastly improved engine reliability of snowmobiles and the OEMs getting into providing rebuilt cranks and engines, many of the machine shops around here who did a lot of engine work on snowmobiles and outboard boat motors have closed up.

Tech experts in many fields relevant to our bikes are disappearing. I don't like it.

Imagine what it was like having a horse when every one was turning to motor cars.
No more vets, no more blacksmiths.
The wheel turns.

Paul
The mobile blacksmiths in my area drive late model expensive 4WD's - they can pretty well charge what they like.

I specialise in race engines from the 60's to the late 80's. I'm frequently fixing things that someone has "fixed" by watching the internet.
Sadly, there really is no substitute for experience,.

Vince:
I bought a 6inch shifter and have 100% confidence in my ability. There are plenty just like that.

Geez Vince: Only 6" - Mine over 7" up until to a few a few years ago and I didn't have to pay for it ;o)

This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine - RLOF !
