NGK B8ES

Gee you two are naughty boys, love it! j
To be honest, I’m an NGK man, fitted them professionally for thirty years, literally thousands, never had a dud.
Ive thrown out Champion,Lodge, Accuspark, three pronged Harley Davidson Screaming chicken, firestarter you name it.
My boss once took a franchise on an all singing all dancing plug from USA and ended up holing a piston on an OW-01 of all things, once bitten. I can remember Yamaha race bikes that were sponsored by Champion but ran NGKs!
We also used to sell copper wire brushes for cleaning plugs and on the packet was royal crest, by appointment to the Queen, just imagine Liz whipping out the plugs on a straight eight Bentley and giving them a whistle up!
Heres one- Who remembers Dr Nagooks Goofy Juice plug cleaning aerosol? Apparently apart from cleaning fouled plugs it also killed you - so they banned it! Happy days….

mmmm not just the Laverda 'kept on the road Red, would direct all to the thread topic, " getting old" bike and rider are fading at similar pace...

Rode the 79 Jota to a RnR Car festival here weekend just gone, 74 year old ballast, 69 year old pilot, 44 year old bike...get the theme? Old.

The 74yo Ballast ( Red polka dot ) was the younger model, there was the reduced speed version ( green dress ) later on, guessing she did a runner from the nursing home like all bad girls do, "runaway.... Dell Shannon clocked it...

As for plugs, use what works, the guides here from the many old timers can be your guide to riding away from a nursing home...catch me if you can, avoid adult children, worse than the police, they want to lock you up or away....j
John I love your Jota orange suit combination and not even one oil stain 😁

Hmm the autobahn shop has heaps of them but my damn Norton eats them like lollies I don’t think they like the excessive flooding from the ticklers. Swapped to Champions as the Norton purists recommended and bingo the same problem, funny thing my Mikuni fuel Laverda’s never foul plugs maybe the primitive fueling and weak petrol we now have to deal with !!

Repco have the Champion N2C plugs on clearance special at the moment. $1 each
Fuck all left available Australia wide on their website.

Put a VM 36 mikuni on my 850 commando. Much better. Lose a bit in the top end.
When I had the head apart this year I replaced the valve springs which were borderline.
So far this has stopped the right hand plug from fouling.
I use a NGK BP7es.

I bought NGK Iridium plugs for my 2 Laverdas a couple of years ago. They have been happily sparking away with no issues. If and when they need replacing they will be readily available. Modern fuel, modern ignition, and modern plugs.

I received my twenty B8ES plugs from Amazon. They look to be real NGK plugs. And I checked the NGK web site for identifying Chinese copies and they look like real NGK plugs. But how to I really know I received real NGK plugs?

From what I have read, the copies keep getting better and are hard to identify.

Fake news, sorry I just had to add that. Without watching them being made in the NGK factory how does anyone know? Crazy world these days when it's apparently impossible to buy genuine ones but fake ones are easy to get.

The transition of NGK into new business name appears to be legitimate, the site(s) clearely stated "Discontinued" that ostensibly is from Japanese origin. The NGK spark covers did disappear, NGK do delete items from production. Off hand comment from myself, NGK production line pumping out older style plugs dilute production for modern plugs, just like semiconductor parts of past era, run a line for x amount of time, shut it down and the output is all that is to be had, ie they do not run lines 365 days a year, not sure whom you contacted Paul? j

Both USA and Japanese NGK state that the B8ES has been discounted. I tried multiple motorcycle and automobile parts distributors here in the USA and all have stated they are no longer available.

I even tried NAPA auto who have over 6,000 stores here in the USA and they stated that the B8ES has been discontinued.

Amazon is the only source at the moment and I don't even know if they are real NGK plugs or Chinese copies.

I just checked the NGK web site a few minutes ago and it still says discontinued.

Just used the plug grit blast cleaner ( AU$35 delivered ), may work acceptable on lawn mower plugs, i would not use it to extend the life of high mileage plugs, maybe "new" sooted would be ok.

Failed initiative to my thoughts, while look ok in the photo, the actual top to bottom cleaning is insufficient to my eye. As it may assist others. j

As others have said there seem to be no issue buying NGK b8ES plugs in Australia however I emailed a query to NGK Australia stating I had heard rumours that NGK were ceasing production of these plugs. I quickly had a response as follows:
Hi Peter,
This is not true at all.
As it stands we currently have orders that are due to arrive into the country all the way through until late March next year.

Thanks
So don't ask me what is going on, but I daresay they have sold a few lately but perhaps the writing is on the wall for next year:unsure:
Re the NGK plugs - I don't subscribe to the theory they are the best etc, just use them because have been easy to get relatively cheaply. I have also had no fouling issues with them since I changed my ignition over 10 years ago and they also now last well. FWIW I run b8es in the triple and the AE.
