BEARS Australia 2026

Nice relaxed driving distance too! Look fwd to results and reports. In bocca al lupo! (that's italiano for ;good luck')

What's the timing-results system?

Matt's best lap in R1 was incredible - daylight to the next best. 2 seconds quicker than qualifying. Ben on the hog a bit down in R1 and behind his brother, but must have liked the slippery track in R2! Rick Fitz having a pretty good weekend.

Ben changed his rear sprocket but went wrong way in R1
Went two teeth up instead of 2 teeth down
Impressive start off the start line though, had that Harley front wheel well up

Yep, 4 from 4, Veloce held up her end
But she has decided to drop out if 5th now but not as bad so her bottom end is coming off in next couple of weeks

Need to do the Mule first to see what the issue is there as that clutch is totally custom made and I don't have too many spare parts for it

Was a great weekend, very few crashes, Ambulance crew looked bored

Next meeting, 7,000 klms round drive to Darwin

back home and Mule first up to see what is going on with the clutch, it was still slipping like normal banging down the gears going into corners and locking up as it should under power but we could not get the clutch to release with lever fully in
Plus the lever went hard when pulled it into the bars due to increased hydraulic pressure, bit odd

Drained the oil, no metal on the magnetic sump plug, good sign, pulled Primary cover off, all looked good so far
Removed the Clutch basket and found one of the needle rollers had escaped from the clutch support needle roller bearing in the Primary cover and had found its way into the area between the inside of the Clutch Basket and the front of the Pressure plate thus stopping the Pressure plate from fully opening which would have happened when I installed the Primary cover after the last rebuild
Hence no clutch but we still had enough movement in the pressure plate to separate enough to allow it to slip during corner entry

Slipper clutch exposed, no sign of any damage

The offending needle roller, 2.5mm diameter, enough to stop the clutch from working

Opened the Slipper clutch anyway to check everything was as it should be, all good

Bike back together and ready to leave for Darwin, Leak down test done and passed, new oil, labelled the tyres so I know what work they have done
Very pleased it was a simple fix

main straight at Morgan Park going into turn 1 through to turn 2 and then up the crest and into the left into turn 3
Matt hits 208 klms/hr before he starts braking into turn 1 and changing down from 5th into 3rd gear for turn 1 and Turn 2 before winding it open up the rise and over into turn 3
you can hear the Slipper Clutch doing its work going from 5th to 3rd into turn 1 by the change in engine revs

as above, click on the photo and you will go to the video
