Replacing ‘don’ with ‘dans’ might help, Terry….
It would behoove all Aussire to understand that the rhetoric coming from Canberra is aimed at shoring up the LNP’s dropping opinion poll results over last few months. Standard procedure is to take pressure off existing poor performance and put people on an alert footing, which tends to sway the public towards conservative political views.
And the rhetoric coming out of Beijing is essentially for the consumption of China’s domestic market, for the same reasons.

:eek::eek: Not interested getting into any party political argy bargie, but I have to say.... trashing a multi billion dollar deal with France and then announcing a new tri nation defence deal in the Pacific, including the leaders of the UK & the US no less in the announcement is a helluva bit of political "rhetoric"??
(Doesn't appear to be very clever if this is all fairy dust.................)

It’s not clever. Just another grasping for the silver bullet, by positioning ourselves with white, colonial powers, which plays well with conservatives.
The French will no doubt get a stupendously large payout, because its Ok for the current mob to piss even more of our money away now they’ve cottoned on to progressive economic theory aka ‘quantitative easing’.

No, haven't watched it, haven't got access to the relevant channel.
There is a 45 minute documentary called "Wear them with Pride' filmed onboard HMAS Oven in 92, the closest you'll get to what it was like living on an Oberon.
Might be of interest to some.
Haven't got the smarts to download it here unfortunately.

Wouldn`t it be easier to build an extra half dozen Astute class subs at Barrow in Furness and then just sail them around to Australia?They have a 25 year life span , will never need refueling, so Australia wouldn`t have to worry about getting their fingers dirty,once they`re there it would just be a case of get in and drive.(Or dive).
BTW I thought I read these new subs were a replacement for the Colin class subs and thought no wonder the Chinese are starting to get full of confidence if you`re giving your warships names like Colin,whatever happened to Dreadnought,Repulse,Revenge etc,but then I read it again and realised it was Collins,my mistake,but c`mon guys,make more of an effort next time round,eh?

The Collins class takes its name from Australian Vice Admiral John Augustine Collins; all six submarines are named after significant RAN personnel who distinguished themselves in action during World War II.
HMAS Sheean, named after Teddy Sheean, a sailor who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on HMAS Armidale during WWII, the only unit in the RAN named after a junior sailor.

Thanks for that,I had heard about the Vice Admiral,didn`t realise the significance relating to names of the other subs : don`t take my attempts at humour too seriously!
(Still reckon warships need names to put the shits up the enemy though!)
