Boots

My Alpine Stars are getting to their use-by date, a sole almost came off so I used that Shoe Glue which hasn't worked in the past but this time I added some 20mm hardwood blocks on either side and a swag of G clamps and its been fine since including that 600k swim to Bellengin, the River crossing allowed the water in. The other issue was the Knurled gear change tip digging an almost hole in the top of the right boot. The soles are completely warn smooth so speedway slides and losing footing when wet are common. How dumb am I, there bloody warn out so I should buy another pair ASAP and brake them in before The Snowy Run.

Local dealers have minimal stock for me to sort thru, if they do have something that looks appealing, they don't have my size (45) and they can't order b/c of supply chain issues. So, I plan on going with an on-line supplier. Still hate the idea of buying without being able to try some on for size.

Was leaning towards TCX, but will give the Daytona or Alpine Stars a go.

Thanks!

I wear high leg lace up miltary boots, the current ones are German army, the previous ones were UK, they were tested to extreme on one occassion and held up well, taking the front bumper off a car and wrecking its drivers door,I didnt fall, but my boot sufferred even though it saved me, great on the bike, you "get away with it" when off the bike ( i use them "under the pants" and they are (of course) great for lots of walking if that occurs, to waterproof them (and this realy realy does work), I use a product called "Duckwax" but I have only seen it at shows, its probably online, but the product last so well even if initially quite expensive, that I can no longer read the label on the pot, it takes a few goes, say three applications over a week, and then occassional re-apply, but its 100% effective, I also use it on my leather pants, to great effect and did try it on gloves, but the waxy finish doesnt suit in that item.

I have a pair Street boots from BMW; I think their are made by SIDI. Waterproof. Had them for 6 years now. I re-heeled them once and I have a second pair in the box waiting to be called into action.
They close with a zipper that is covered with a large flap that wraps over and held by Velcro. They fit inside my Jeans and Aerostitch suit.
Don't dress for looks, dress for the accident.

Yet another vote for Daytona boots.
Had mine in excess of 20 years and just had a full refurbishment by the German manufacturers.
Soles, gear change pads etc.
Very happy with the cost and quality.

Much cheaper than cheap boots in the long run.

These are gorgeous as they allow quite a bit of movement in your ankle - good for the Jota with a lot of lever movement - comfortable for walking - they are waterproof but in a big rain they hold the water in if it comes over the top - got a set of Daytonas for long distance or rainy days 034AD47F-09EC-4BFE-944B-E332A6B852E9.jpeg

Having picked people up after accidents, those just conjure up images of the rider to the right and the shoe with the foot to the left. Or if you're lucky, just the bones poking through the trousers.
No way.

Yes, well as a chap used to wearing old army boots to ride in I suppose they are gorgeous in a Larry Grayson ' shut that door' kind of way.

Exactly what was going through my mind. Holy crap, may as well wear joggers.
I suppose you medical guys don't approve of wearing thongs (flip-flops) on a bike either, even if they're double-pluggers.

When I was young and stupid (now I'm old and stupid) I wore thongs while riding on a very hot day. I was also wearing shorts and a T-shirt, but let's not go into that. I only ever wore thongs that one time because I had two footwear related mishaps on that ride.

The first mishap was when I stopped at the lights in the city and put both feet down on the road while waiting for the green light. It was such a stinking hot and sunny day that the bitumen on the road surface had partially melted and was sticky. When I took off, my thongs stayed stuck to the road as my feet were yanked out of them. I pulled over on the other side of the intersection and tiptoed back in bare feet on the hot tarmac to peel my thongs off the road. I put them back on my feet and continued on my way.

A little while later I ended up giving my toenails an unexpected trim while cornering. The toe of my right thong touched the road and got folded under the footrest, pulling my toes down onto the road. Luckily no permanent damage was done. Just slightly ragged looking toenails, some gravel rash and a bit of blood. It all healed OK.
