No, I don't think so. That pic is a bicycle chain which doesn't have bushes. The rollers spin directly on the pins.
With motorcycle chains, the inner link has bushes pressed into the side plates so the whole link becomes a rigid assembly, as shown in Craig's second pic.
 
Yeah, that first piccie was really to illustrate the essence of Clem's original point,

"those holes/drillings become worn and (possibly) oval, the pins become worn and smaller"

But what's to stop the bore in the pressed-in bush wearing in concert with the pint hat runs inside it??

Nothing. Obviously both the pin and bush will wear. But that won't affect the centre to centre distance of the 2 bushes that are pressed into the same set of side plates.

That's what I'm getting at. That distance doesn't change, but the distance between the bushes in adjacent (outside) links will change. So you end up with long-short-long-short ? roller centres.

As the rollers wear, they'll end up slopping around, averaging out the distance differences when the chain is in use.

As Bobsol stated, the simplest test for chain wear is to pull it off the rear sprocket.  A good chain will allow a bare minimum of movement, a worn chain will lift off easily.

Was lucky to notice this while I was changing tires on the dual sport bike. How much further do you think I could've gone?

More significant is that it both fractures are on the same plate/side of the chain.
I would have thought the extra pressure of the 1st crack would pull more pressure on the other side plate, causing it to fracture too.  (dunno)
 
Is it just an effect of the camera or does the outer radius of the links, especially where the cracks are, look flattened/hammered?
Is the rest of the chain like that and why?

Well spotted; does look as if that link has been knocking against something, maybe a stiff link whacking against the engine cases or something. Does not look as if the other links are affected.
Should take it to an engineer that deals in that type of thing and get it diagnosed.

of course it is significant Cam, think about it, the spring link is supplied with one plate riveted to the pins, (nice a ridged) the other (at one time) plate was a loose push fit over the pins, (not so now) so movement under load was possible causing differing stresses on the fixed plate and the loose plate, and even some "bending" of the pins, the spring merely keeps the loose plate in situ, I do like riveted links because of this, and let no one say that those links are useless because if they are soft enough to rivet, then they are no good, ALL THE LINKS ARE RIVETTED. They don't get hardened after assembly.

Nowadays the loose plates in spring links are a very tight fit, and have to be "pressed" onto the pins with some sort of mechanical screw device, a G clamp and a small socket perhaps, the self rivet links were always like this.

I had the same thing happen on my Saturno except that the plate was broken clean through on one side.

Those connecting links are a weak link and need to be looked at very regularly.

It looks like it copped a whack. The damaged link could be sent to the DID distributor for analysis, and I be they'd say the same. DID have always been top quality, I wouldn't judge them by this.

But the one that failed like that on the Saturno was the split link. Side plate split right through.

The whole chain has flattened links. Dual Sport bike that sees equal amounts of on/off road use. Chain slides across several glides, will need to look if they are worn thru. It is a bit of a beater bike that sees the minimal maintenance.

I'm guilty.
