Orange

Prefer the richer hue of RAL2009, which I used in my Jota tank, as in the pic.
Paint was Spies Hecker base coat, and clear coat on top.

clanger hasn't popped up so I will
Ford amber gold
that might have even been what he would have said.

originaly it was an Alice Chalmers (tractor/agricultural machines) orange
that would have only got them starting, because prior to that the race bikes were white, there never was a standard, just orange "something like this one" so no SFC orange is wrong, if you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit go with Grants suggestion.
CLEM

The original orange was quite pale, ral 2008 is close. Richard Slater gave me this paint code matched by Slaters back in the day to true colour match a factory fresh jota
ICI Autocolour Belco
Spectrum Red P030AM 97
Good luck if you can find it now.
Paint type & primer colour can affect final colour, i used white, grey gives orange a brownish hint.

Mein Gott, that's a quick time, Steve! I take it you're not talking about your SFC917 beast? Wouldn't that eclipse Drmsby's best on it at the Island?

Just how 'SF1' was this bike???

Only saw this just now.  No that was the preceding bike, the orange '915'.  the black one was built out of many of the parts of the 915, around the CrMo frame and other lightening bits and bobs.  The 915 was built around an SF1 frame, number 8-something I think.  And yeah, Ken was super quick on it back before my time when Chris Cutler ran it, but it never held together for a whole meeting at the Island.

I only ran Drmsby the once at PI, and it was last minute entry with no practice, no setup info, engine on it's last legs, etc.  :)  Drmsby ran a 49.0 in both qualy and in race 1, the latter could certainly have been quicker but for Davo Johnson on the Paton holding him up in the fast corners, that lap included fully closing the thottle on the exit of 12 to save from running into the back of him! :D  It was an honour to watch Drmsby learn the track in one session, I think his first ever flying lap was a 2:22, the second a 1:58 and the third a 1:53 with the bike so badly setup he was only using 4 gears.

Man that was a hoot, happy days.  But yeah, we didn't match Ken's time on the standard framed bike from c.2001.  Must give it another crack some day.

Back to Orange.... I used RAL2004 on an 81 Jota, it looks great but is "too orange" compared to the more original colours.  Should be more washed out looking like the aforementioned GMH Lone-O-Ranger orange.

Thanks for the info, Steve. Really quite incredible achievement for 2001. I'd always thought you and Drmsby held the fastest Laverda time for 'La Isola'. But incredible even more was Drmby's work on a new track. Chapeaux to all of you. With a std SF1 frame, it simply highlights why people like Lee and I absolutely love riding the twins fast - and they just seem to take to racetracks like the proverbial ducks - even with questionable setup. Dunno what it is, but it's real.
