SF2

Well I went and bought a 74 SF2 today, snapped chain, motor seized probably with standing for 25 years, ugly paint, rust etc but it's all there and very original except for shitty paint. Paul Marx said a few months ago the whole bunch of 4 bikes this guy brought from Italy were worth about £3000 but that's what I paid for this one alone. The way I see it is the front end is worth at least half that if it was broken for spares so I'm doing ok. I have a 1963 Honda CB77 here with stuck pistons and I reckon it will take dynamite to shift them so I'm hoping for more luck with this bike and no it isn't going to get cash thrown at it, maybe a hammer or something but not money.

Sounds like one I just bought ..... not sure it has a broken chain... but its getting replace anyway

got to love those 3K specials

beige and purple!!!!!!!!

mines going to be british racing green full race fairing with a silver frame ,

I'm not painting the frame, it can keep its original finish, just the tank and panels, I don't want them to show the rest of it up either. they will have to look a bit distressed like myself. I reckon a not too glossy silver grey with a semi gloss black on the hump seat. I will have to free the motor off first though and that may prove difficult. Everything is there but some of it is broken.

Hey Pat how does it compare to the condition of this one?

I think it's already got coke in it Ernesto. I have some Kroil here though, that seems pretty good.
I have the head off the Honda CB77 and that has had everything I can think of in the bores. The pistons have moved a little but even with a blowtorch and some energetic use of a hammer there is no more movement. I'm thinking of even more drastic measures for that engine but I have replacement barrels and pistons for that motor, I will have to be a bit more careful with the SF2, I can't afford to damage too much.

Hey Pat how does it compare to the condition of this one?

Mine is more complete and original, same seller though Scrumpy. I don't have a picture to post though. Mine's bog standard but with the proper hump seat with hatch and a crap paint job on the tank and panels. he has more bikes, they were shown on the ILOC forum a while ago. I think he wants to shift them if anybody wants one.

I hope you delve deep into the motor, once you get the barrels off!! Got to wonder why the chain broke ... will not be nice if the bottom end and drivertrain are damaged. Not nice as in, very expensive!! Good luck with it PF. Yes, some pics please!

Ok some pics as requested. As far as I can see it has a broken clock bracket and clutch lever bracket, broken front mudguard stay, snapped nipple in one brake caliper and the vanes in the rear hub have been mashed by the snapped chain. Tank might be dented on the left hand side, it's hard to tell. I'm happy with it though because apart from the paint it seems very original..

It looks unmolested alright. The clutch lever bracket, mudguard stay, and instrument support all happened quite early on my SF2. The C66 Metzeler on the rear came on SF2 standard in Oz. The bike looks like it needs a lot of work though even to make it a reliable runner without a full refurb. I have been offered SF2s in similar condition for similar money so it is ballpark.
