"In over 30 years of organising Amicale 750 Laverda meetings, yearly or twice yearly, the only serious problem that ever occured was with a Ducati."

I didn't want to show the English in a bad light Clem.

The 750 with serious trouble in Breganze just needed new pistons. The right place for it. That was changed at the Scuola Laverda kindly lent to us by the town. It was in fact the same owner as the Ducati. That was in 1990, you weren't a regular yet Clem. It was the first real Amicale meeting. The Ducati Pantah was tugged 60 km by a 750 Laverda to get back to the campsite.

I could have mentioned the imploded starter motor on my SFC when the freewheel stuck. That was the time I was loaned a new one changed on site and lubricated with margarine.

was that what they sold as an Austin Princess in NZ, they were powered by rover engines too

The P76 was sold here as a Leyland. Best of my knowledge we didn't get the 6 cyl version - all V8's.

I'll offer up the Australasian classic - Repco - Rip every poor chow off. Traditionally racist but accurate. At least in NZ.

Pretty sure it was a P76 motor that Toad installed in his V8 sidecar. Anyone who spent time in WA in the late 70s 80s would know of Toad and his Goldwing sidecar. As an aside, anyone who knew Toad would know of his sheds full of bikes. The fires that burnt through the out skirts of Perth a couple of weeks back was all around Toads area, Chittering Vally. Was thinking of Toad at the time. If they had gone up in smoke I'm sure I would have heard about it. He would have near on 500 bikes in those sheds.

Yeah, Rob, it was definitely a Leyland P76, an aluminum 3.8 litre fuel-injected V8 as used in the P76 sedan. A car that was built to challenge Holden and Ford (Falcon), it was a disaster of a car it rattled itself to death on OZ roads don't even think about going bush in one. One of the advertised selling features was you could fit 2 44gallon drums in the boot, P76 gone, Holden gone, do they still make Falcon utes? Holden Commodore ute conversion very much appreciated here in the USA.

Yeah Dave I miss my commodore ute. Way better to drive than the shit box holden badged rodeo 4wd I currently have. But then again I couldn't take the ute to the plaes I go with the rodeo and my area the best places to go are down sandy 4wd tracks to get the the beach.
